Impact of oral bisphosphonate drug holiday on mortality following hip fracture: a population-based cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Post-fracture mortality is higher in people who discontinue risedronate, but not alendronate, for 1 or 2 years after being adherent to treatment for at least 5 years. The type of bisphosphonate may be a factor to consider when planning drug holidays.PMID:38630464 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae272 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1256: EGFR-Targeted Antibody & ndash;Drug Conjugate to Different Aminobisphosphonates: Direct and Indirect Antitumor Effects on Colorectal Carcinoma Cells
In this study, we conjugated Cetuximab (Cet), a monoclonal antibody that targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), to aminobisphosphonates (N-BPs) such as ibandronate (IBA) or risedronate (RIS) or zoledronate (ZA). Cetuximab is administered to patients with metastatic colorectal carcinoma (mCRC) with a wild-type (WT) EGFR transduction pathway. Also, it is well established that N-BPs can trigger the antitumor activity of Vδ2 T cells in both in vitro and in vivo experimental models. The resulting ADCs were added in co-culture to assess the effect on CRC cell line proliferation and sensitivity to V&am...

Twelve-month resistance and impact exercise program or risedronate provides a relative benefit to hip bone structure in postmenopausal women: results from a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionExercise and bisphosphonates may influence structural and strength estimates at the hip, but not at peripheral sites (tibia). Neither exercise nor bisphosphonates were found to be superior in improving estimates of hip bone strength. (Source: Osteoporosis International)

Role of zinc in health and disease
AbstractThis review provides a concise overview of the  cellular and clinical aspects of the role of zinc, an essential micronutrient, in human physiology and discusses zinc-related pathological states. Zinc cannot be stored in significant amounts, so regular dietary intake is essential. ZIP4 and/or ZnT5B transport dietary zinc ions from the duodenum i nto the enterocyte, ZnT1 transports zinc ions from the enterocyte into the circulation, and ZnT5B (bidirectional zinc transporter) facilitates endogenous zinc secretion into the intestinal lumen. Putative promoters of zinc absorption that increase its bioavailability includ...

Denosumab, teriparatide and bisphosphonates for glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis: a Bayesian network meta-analysis
Conclusion: Teriparatide denosumab and the bisphosphonates are all effective in improving BMD for GIO patients. Based on this network meta-analysis, teriparatide and denosumab have higher efficiency in improving lumbar spine and femur neck BMD, and reducing vertebrae fracture.Systematic Review Registration:10.17605/OSF.IO/2G8YA, identifier CRD42023456305. The effectiveness of ibandronate in reducing the risk of nonvertebral fractures in women with osteoporosis: systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies
ConclusionResults suggest that once-monthly 150  mg oral ibandronate may be as effective as other oral bisphosphonates in reducing the risk of nonvertebral fractures. However, uncertainty associated to the small number of included studies, which are characterized by heterogeneous demographics and methodologies, precluded definitive conclusions. Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw: A cross-sectional study on the prevalence of cutaneous manifestations and the primary care physician's role in its early diagnosis
Bone-modifying agents (BMA), such as nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates (N-BP) s)(e.g., zoledronic acid, pamidronate, alendronate and risedronate) and receptor activators of nuclear factor kappa- Β ligand inhibitors (e.g., denosumab), are commonly used for treating osteoporosis, bone metastases, and other bone-related diseases. Side effects of Stevens–Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis in patients using N-BPshave been reported.1 In addition, maculopapular lesions,2 plaques an d ulcerations,3 dermatitides, and B-cell pseudolymphoma4 were reported in patients taking zoledronic acid.
