A standardized extract of the fruit of Hovenia dulcis alleviated alcohol-induced hangover in healthy subjects with heterozygous ALDH2: A randomized, controlled, crossover trial
Conclusions The results suggest that a favorable effect of HDE on alcohol hangovers might be associated with enhancing homeostatic regulation of inflammatory response. The magnitude of impact might be different in the presence of CYP2E1 polymorphism. Graphical abstract (Source: Journal of Ethnopharmacology)

When hunger does (or doesn't) increase unhealthy and healthy food consumption through food wanting: The distinctive role of impulsive approach tendencies toward healthy food.
CONCLUSION: These findings showed that IAHF play a protective role by preventing hunger to indirectly increase unhealthy food consumption through wanting for food. It confirms the importance of considering how individuals may differ in their impulsive approach tendencies toward food to better understand why some individuals will increase their unhealthy food intake when they are hungry, whereas other will not. Neural pathways for cognitive command and control of hand movements [Neuroscience]
A piece of fruit—a raisin—swings on a stick in front of a monkey (Fig. 1). He likes raisins; he wants this one. He stretches out his arm, opens his hand with the fingers spread wide apart, and tries to capture it; he misses (bursts B and D). He tries again,... Masticatory muscle activity evaluation by electromyography in subjects with zygomatic implants.
CONCLUSIONS: The zygomatic implant promoted an active response of the muscle fibers (hyperactivity) during both mandibular posture and chewing conditions, probably due to the absence of periodontal receptors, which play a significant role for preparing a bolus for swallowing. The influence of mannitol on morphology and disintegration of spray-dried nano-embedded microparticles.
Abstract Nano-embedded microparticles represent a promising approach to deliver nanoparticles to the lungs. Microparticles with an appropriate aerodynamic diameter enable an application by dry powder inhaler and the transport of nanoparticles into the airways. By disintegration after deposition, nanoparticles can be released to exhibit their advantages such as a sustained drug release and delivery of the drug across the mucus barrier. The use of an appropriate matrix excipient to embed the nanoparticles is essential for the necessary disintegration and release of nanoparticles. In this context we investiga...

The need to revisit ochratoxin a risk in light of diabetes, obesity, and chronic kidney disease prevalence.
Abstract Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mycotoxin, or fungal toxin, that contaminates multiple foodstuffs and beverages worldwide. Affected commodities include oats, wheat, maize, barley, raisins and other dried vine fruits, wine, beer, coffee, and cocoa. Although OTA has been shown to cause kidney disease, including kidney cancer, in multiple animal species, the impact of dietary OTA on human health from a global perspective has been less clear. Several epidemiological studies suggest an association between OTA exposure and human kidney disease, but evidence of causality has been limited. Nonetheless, because OT...

Free and glycosidically bound volatile compounds in sun-dried raisins made from different fragrance intensities grape varieties using a validated HS-SPME with GC –MS method
Publication date: 1 August 2017 Source:Food Chemistry, Volume 228 Author(s): Dong Wang, Chang-Qing Duan, Ying Shi, Bao-Qing Zhu, Hafiz Umer Javed, Jun Wang The conditions of sample pretreatments and HS-SPME for extracting volatile compounds from raisins were optimized, and the method was validated in the study. Free and glycosidically bound volatile compounds in three different fragrance intensities raisins were analysed using this method. There were 91 compounds identified, and 72, 26 and 8 of these compounds came from fresh grapes, the auto-oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids (UFAO) and the Maillard reaction, re...
