Thoughts on SIR should IR leave DR talk
I heard a lot of people speak on this subject not just at this one form. I listened to multiple people. IR’s have no leverage when they are doing rudimentary IR biopsies and drains. IR has a lot of leverage when they are doing high end cases. When IR is doing, high end cases they make a lot of money for the hospital. I heard someone in PP that IR had disputes with DR over money and they said they were going to leave collectively the group. DR immediately caved in to this thought because they... Radiology has hottest job market in medicine?
This chart suggests that. Who knows. Radiology job market is the hottest I’ve ever seen. Enjoy it while you can. Things happen in cycles. When I was in residency, the job market was at its bottom. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hospital Subsidies For DR
Has anyone heard of hospitals subsidizing DR groups for coverage or offering pay per click at a premium/higher than standard reimbursement rate for reading their studies? Everyone is talking about how great the job market is, but with reimbursement continuously falling and radiology profit being directly tied to how much/what is read im worried that were heading towards a cliff regarding pay. You'd hope that with demand for radiologists far exceeding the supply, something would eventually... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How much would low board scores from med school impact application for sub-specialties?
Let's say you're an IM trying to get into competitive specialties like Cards. Or let's say you're a Derm wanting to apply for Moh's. Or a Radiologist wanting to do Neuro fellowship. EDIT: I meant, Steps 1 and 2 (because they were in medical school). (Source: Student Doctor Network)

BWH abdo fellowship
Hey! I am a Canadian radiology resident interested in applying to this program next year. Wondering what the reputation is like or if anyone has heard positive/negative things. I think it seems great though my only concern is that some of the procedures highlighted on their web page are quite advanced (RFA, cryo), which are skills I would never use in my future general practice. RFU vs Morehouse
For context, my long-term goal is an academic practice in internal medicine (cardiology eventually) or radiology. I know it's a bit of time away, but I would prefer to complete my residency in Chicago (as I would ideally like to settle down in my hometown). Morehouse: Pros - community & health equity focus - close with Emory - tight knit community, smaller class sizes - Grady clinical rotations - have a few very close friends in Atlanta Cons - HP/P/F and then graded... Letters of Recommendation
Planning to apply to DR this year and I had a question regarding letters that I can use. I understand that I need 1 DR letter. However, I also can get 2 IR letters and a neurology letter. Would 2 IR letters be fine or should I use the neuro letter as well (1 IR +1 neuro)? I can get a medicine letter but I'd have to do another rotation. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Current State of Navy Radiology?
Hi, incoming USUHS student here. 6 years of prior service in the Navy, 4 as a linguist and 2 in EMDP2 (USUHS's enlisted to MD postbacc). I'm interested in rads, but threads from a few years ago shared that quite a few residency seats were cut and the field is overmanned. Will this likely persist/get worse? I keep hearing that the Navy is moving away from wanting GMO tours pre-residency and moving towards OMO tours after. Any idea when this is supposed to start? Is radiology a specialty... Thoughts on VIR rank list
I'm currently in the process of finalizing my rank list. I'm pretty sure about my top 3 programs, but I'm having difficulty ranking the rest of my VIR programs. I would love some input from the VIR community. My goal is to obtain a very clinically oriented VIR training with high frequency of clinic throughout R1-R5 (even intern year if possible) and high complexity/variety of cases. I would ideally also love a program with a strong DR training as well. This is currently how my VIR ROL... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ortho vs Radiology
Hi all I am currently a medical student torn between applying into orthopedics and radiology. I came into medical school wanting to pursue orthopedics and worked hard to get a lot of research experience and good grades. Throughout medical school I continually heard if you like anything equally as much you should do that instead. The only other field I have enjoyed is radiology. I enjoy the fact you get to see the entire spectrum of pathologies and that you become an expert in a specific... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do radiologists have to work night shifts?
I mean once you're an attending. And if so, how often? And does this depend on academics vs private practice? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

DO ’s applying to IR residency
Super interested in radiology. Whats it like for DO graduates applying for residency? Also, I am a bit confused as to why intern year in Surgery/IM is often done at a separate location from the home IR program. Can anyone clarify that for me. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does going to a "workhorse" residency program notably benefit your speed in private practice (Columbia vs NYU)
As the title suggests, I am almost 100% sure I want to do private practice. I was told that the reading speed difference between private practice and academics is only increasing and in order to maximize income and have the best shot at making partner it helps to be a fast reader. I am currently deciding whether to rank NYU vs Columbia #1 in order to meet this goal. From what I gathered NYU has more academic and research prestige in the field of radiology but Columbia residents absolutely... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Deciding IR ROL, interested in mix of academics and practice-building as an attending.
Hello! I'm really torn between these programs near the top of my ROL. Brown, Northwestern, Emory, Jefferson, and Mayo Rochester. I'm from New Jersey and Jefferson would be closer to home, but I'm wondering if the bigger name of some of the other places has any real advantage. Any advice as to which are better places to train? I'm willing to work as hard as needed to get to my goal! (Source: Student Doctor Network)
