Split of radiation oncology from diagnostic radiology
Curious as to what was the impetus for radiation oncology to separate from the house of radiology? What were the key factors involved in the separation? Who were the key thought leaders in radiation oncology that led to the separation? Do you think that radiation oncology could have still been as successful if it were a subspecialty of radiology? Radiology Residency Application Cycle 2023
Hello! I wanted to make this to forum so those who are applying for radiology residencies can keep each other updated. This is my first time applying and I’m applying straight out of a rotating. I didn’t get invited for an interview at Colorado so 🥲. I think my GPA is really going to hurt me. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Radiology vs Path
which would you recommend to med students considering these two fields? They seem to attract similar personalities and both have decent salaries and relatively benign training periods. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

IR Job Market?
Can anyone give some real world insight into IR job market? I know there are lots of factors (academics, PP, hybrid etc, 100% IR vs IR/DR mix). Would like to hear all options (pay/vacation too) if possible. thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Peds neuro
So I'm currently in my third year rotations and am debating between pursuing two very different fields, interventional radiology and pediatric neurology (but hear me out). The parts of this decision that I am considering are lifestyle, procedural, salary, and doing what I like. Interventional radiology is both procedural and makes good money, but I am scared of the diagnostic radiology part because I want a procedural job and diagnostics interests me less (and diagnostic radiology is a huge... Gap year in-between intern year and Advanced position
Hello IMGs, I would be really grateful if someone could assist me with my situation: I am a non-US IMG on a J1 visa, currently doing a TY year in the Southwest. I am interviewing mostly for Advanced programs in Diagnostic Radiology, starting in 2025. If I match with those programs, I will have a gap year. Simply put, I will have to leave the state for one year. However, I strongly prefer to stay in the United States for personal reasons. Could anyone who has gone through this or has ideas... Prion risk from image guided LPs?
Hey team, I perform image guided LPs in my residency in a procedure room and am worried that I am being exposed to small doses of prions because it sometimes drips on the floor (I know this happens because I've done it lol, not with CJD patient though... I think) or the outside of the tube and we have documented CJD patients a couple times a year. Apparently this stuff never goes away. As I've read more about it, I don't understand why more people aren't worried about this to be honest... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does research matter at all for academic primary care residencies?
I'm an OMS-II taking step and COMLEX in the Summer, and am also currently working on two projects, one which is under review for publication and another that I am trying to decide how much time I should dedicate towards it. I want to keep more competitive specialties on the table like radiology or anesthesiology on the table, but I could also see myself doing FM or peds. I ask this question because if there ever came a point where I realize a competitive specialty is off the table for me... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What is average signing bonus?
Interviewed for a job I liked in the area I want to live but they offered only a $5K signing bonus. My friends are talking about getting signing bonuses for like $20-40K. Do some places simply not really offer signing bonuses or am I being taken for a ride. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Texts for starting PCCM fellowship
Any textbooks you would recommend having on hand for studying as a new PCCM grad? Inspired by recently reading Felsons Chest Radiology book and being thoroughly impressed. I want to make sure I don't miss any other good textbooks in the field. I have the little ICU book and also the ventilator book both of which have helped me a lot already. Are any teleradiology jobs any good?
I’m only an R1 but I get emails every now and then for open positions and have seen quite a few swing shift teleradiology jobs that seem to pay well and offer 1 on 2 off. I guess my question is, what’s the catch? Their salaries seem in line with daytime salaries/slightly less. Why would someone not want a job like that if they’re reading swing/evening shift for the east coast while living out west? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
