STATdx
My program discontinued their STATdx subscription before my class started. Is it worth it to spent the $2300 on a personal subscription or is radiopaedia adequate? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NBER white paper comparing ER physician and NP productivity
This white paper was recently posted in a non-SDN radiology forum which I thought may be of some interest here. It is recently released paper from an economic think tank (National Bureau of Economic Research) which compared MD and NP productivity in the VA. Some nuggets from the abstract include: "... we find that, compared to physicians, NPs significantly increase resource utilization but achieve worse patient outcomes." "Counterfactual analysis suggests a net increase in medical costs... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Interested in Radiology, screwed up my first pre-clinical class. What can I do to make up for this?
M1 here at a low-ranked MD school. Just finished my first block recently, and bombed it. I have to retake it over the summer. This Fail will show up on my Transcript, alongside the (hopeful) Pass when I redo it. It's also reported on my MPSE Dean's Letter I failed for entirely my own reasons. There were no extenuating circumstances or anything, it was just a mix of me being lazy, underestimating the work, and not knowing how to study. I think I figured out my problems with managing the... Critical Wartime Shortage List
Looks like my specialty (diagnostic radiology) was taken off the list so I won’t be receiving the USAR STRAP stipend. Anyone know how often they reassess this? My understanding is that it doesn’t necessarily happen yearly, and can occur more than once a year? Of note, I’m not going into anesthesia but it seems like anesthesia residents aren’t getting this either, but CRNAs are. Seems odd to me. Other specialties that came off include IM and EM as well as general dentistry. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MRI with nerve sheath thickening - anyone seen this before?
50+yo with new axial only low back pain of several months. Born in Southeast Asian country. I treated for facetogenic pain. Did MBBs and had ~70% relief but self-report limited by language/cultural barrier. In any case, pt decided to not move forward with RFA since was still "doing good". MRI L-spine showed nonspecific nerve sheath thickening. Tried a lit search, couldn't come up with much. Radiologist said it could be seen in mixed connective tissue diseases. Anyone seen this before? Would... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Chances of Matching
Hi all, Looking for some advice and thoughts on my chances for DR. For context, I am a 4th-year medical student (USMD) who just started my research year a month ago. I am currently a student at a T10 medical school and we took Step 1 P/F after clerkships. Unfortunately, I think this backfired for me, on all of my practice exams for step 1 I was consistently getting average-> above average and ended up passing comfortably (or so I thought, hard to tell when it is P/F). Fast forward to a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Zero interview invites?
At what point should I be worried about having zero interview invites for my specialty? I got a couple of prelim invites, but have otherwise had complete silence. I'm kind of worried that my application has some red flag that I'm unaware of. For reference, I'm a mid-tier USMD student applying into radiology with above average step scores for both step 1 and 2 (applied to 80 programs), but I'm seeing even people with lower scores have 3-5 interviews so far. Diagnostic radiology in a bear market?
As we all know, the radiology job market is very hot right now (ie. Some Graduates getting offers without fellowships). However, after the great financial crisis in 2008, many older radiologists delayed retirement. This meant that the radiology job market came to look more like the pathology job market. Graduates doing multiple fellowships only to get a job in the middle of nowhere despite wanting to stay on the coasts/city. With the S&P 500 crashing with no end in sight, do people on here...
