Psych vs Radiology vs Pathology
Wasn’t sure where to post this — I’m still a med student but figured the people in this subsection would have better knowledge about this question: Which of the aforementioned specialties has the best lifestyle when it comes to hours, stress levels, ease-of-learning during residency, etc? I’m a non-trad student and older than most other students and have worked my fair share of stressful jobs before med school… I’m honestly at the point of my life where lifestyle is pretty much the only... Matching radiology without step 1?
I know "just take step 1"... but I'm curious who matched with just a level 1 score? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do I HAVE to get disability insurance?
I know disability insurance is important and that you can't predict what could happen in your life and to your health. Most attendings have told me to get it (except one radiologist I know who said it's not necessary until later in life when I have a family to feed). But just wondering if there are people out there that didn't get it, and what was your reasoning? I really don't want to get it but I just feel so pressured. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is it still possible to do a Nuclear Medicine residency on its own?
When I first started browsing this forum (long, long ago), Nuclear Medicine was dying out as an independent specialty. Is it still possible to match into Nuclear Medicine and not Radiology+Nuclear Medicine? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Best fellowship for PP?
Torn between Body MRI or MSK for fellowship? Any advice? My program allows 6 month mini fellowships during fourth year, will do that for the specialty I end up not picking. Any insight will be appreciated. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cardiac Imaging?
We hear a lot about the usual suspects - body, Msk, breast, IR- in radiology residency as well as on job boards. But dont hear much at all about cardiac imaging. I chatted with the imaging fellow at my institution and they believe CT coronary will replace cardiac cath. What is the scope for cardiac imaging fellowships for the Radiologist? Any PP attending that can give insight into the market demand for cardiac imagers? Is it completely cornered off by Cardiology? We don’t read cardiac at... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How to improve spine MRI reads
Hi all, About to start my pain fellowship and one of my glaring deficiencies (among many) I've realized is independence in reading spine MRIs. Our residency had very good exposure to pain, but I feel like I didn't make as much of an effort to become proficient at this so I wouldn't have to rely on a radiologist's interpretation. A lot of the time my attending would point out abnormalities that I either could or could not appreciate, and then I didn't necessarily think about it again. Does... one year into radiology, but still not loving it or any better at it
I know a lot of people share similar sentiments about struggling and not loving radiology, having regrets during their first year. Others offer reassurance saying it gets better after that initial year. Well now that I’ve moved onto my 2nd year, I only feel worse about having chosen radiology. I think the biggest problem is that I still feel (and likely I am) grossly incompetent and that radiology is innately too difficult for me. I struggle with catching all the abnormalities particularly... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Radiology to Anesthesiology
Hi everyone, this is an odd post but pls allow it. Unbiased and honest opinions are super appreciated. I’m an R2 (PGY-3) in radiology. I’ve been having buyer’s remorse for a bit and it has not improved, unfortunately. While the job market is great once one is done with residency, I have a hard time envisioning myself working in solitude on a computer for endless hours for the rest of my life. I want a little more human interaction. IR is an option but it’s also a brutal specialty. I’ve... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Started radiology, looking to switch into psych
Started radiology and discovered I don't like it at all. Felt more in tune with psychiatry during med school, looking for a switch. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Radiology Letters of Recommendation
I know the consensus is that clinical letters are important but people also say that radiology letters are important as well. Does this matter where the clinical letters are from? For example, if I obtain a pediatrics letters of recommendation would this be as strong as a radiology or internal medicine one? Is it three letters maximum or three letters minimum? Board scores for fellowship?

Thoughts on nuc med?
Happy 4th! Current R2 here thinking about nucs and was wondering what the career prospects of a general radiologist with nucs training are like. I enjoy nucs and think the field is heading in the right direction. I've heard about people who got jobs straight out of residency after completing the DR/NM pathway that sounds pretty nice. Nucs only jobs are probably only available at large academic centers, but are mixed radiology/nucs positions easy to come by in private practice? Is it... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Radiology residency programs that prepare for the real world?
Current MS4 applying into diagnostic radiology trying to decide where to apply. My main goal during residency is to become the best clinical radiologist I can. I am not yet decided between private vs academics but will probably go private practice. I like research but don't want to go to a program that sacrifices clinical training at the expense of research. I have heard whispers of some big-name programs that one would expect to be some of the best in the country that simply don't have... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
