Anyone know of good MSW programs with a strong clinical focus?
Hello loves! I want to provide 1:1 therapy in private practice ideally, am thinking of LCSW over LPC just based on how it's more versatile. However, seeing as so I ideally want to provide therapy, I want to be very very knowledgeable on psychotherapy and overall be the best clinician as possible. I do want to learn about social work to be able to be more holistic, but I am very interested in psychological concepts and that is my main interest. If you guys know of any good programs please... Burnout Threshold
Just curious for informal feedback, for those seeing clients for psychotherapy, what is your weekly limit for direct contact hours or hour-long sessions in your career, after which point you feel burnout or too drained? Has this number changed since grad school? Any surprises? Does it vary by presenting concern or site? Curious to see if this has changed for folks between grad school and career, and if so, how much factors like site, etc. make a difference. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

LCSW in California
I have been learning a lot and considering going back to school for LCSW since lots of research consensus seems to say LCSW is more hirable than MFT in psychology. Ideally I would eventually get into PhD for a licensable Psychology track if I can go with tuition paid for. But in the meantime, I’m interested in private practice for psychotherapy and case management in the future. I know after the MSW degree I will need to work 3000 hours for my license. ****After the 3000 hours and... LCSW in California (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cash Private Practice Billing Options
I am interested in eventually opening a PP that is cashed based and have a few questions regarding billing this. I would like to charge by the hour and see myself doing a combination of medications and psychotherapy rather than per session, this seems to be standard for many professionals with the exception of doctors due to how insurance pays per session. Are there any laws that would complicate this? Much of what I look up for medical billing pertains to insurance with little I could... Boston Children's Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship
Hello! Application season is upon us! I am a current Fellow at BCH and here are the things I love about the program: - Richly Academic: Opportunities abound at BCH. If you're a researcher, there are mentors and funds available. There are weekly psychopharm and psychotherapy didactics + journal club which explore the history/traditions of our fields and expose us to the most important scientific findings of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. During the first year, we attend the famous McLean... Boston Children's Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Therapy doesn't work how we think it works
Let me preface this by saying I am 100% about empiricism. I was trained hardcore in evidence-based practices, the importance of research informed therapy, and to be a good consumer/critic of research. I currently use CBT, ACT, and exposure and response prevention as my main modalities. So...don't get too angry. I want you all to think about something though. The Contextual model of psychotherapy proposed in The Great Psychotherapy Debate by Wampold and Imel (a freaking MUST read) provides a... Psychotherapy training — Bare minimum vs. extensive?
Hi folks! There’s a lively thread in the psychology forum regarding psychiatry and psychotherapy training en route to completing training. I’m interested to hear how extensive or bare bones your psychotherapy training has been. According to multiple psychiatrists I’ve spoken with, training has been very bare bones and not thorough enough, so I am trying to get a sense of how common this is in residency. One person in the other thread has argued that your psychotherapy training is extensive... Psychotherapy training — Bare minimum vs. extensive? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should we care about "body psychology?"
What says SDN about somatic experiencing and sensorimotor psychotherapy which all seem to fall under the same guise as body psychotherapy? I've heard of people paying BIG BUCKS to travel to expensive cities to undergo trainings to be become certified in it. I was curious about the evidence so I spent exactly 93 seconds googling and skimming a few abstracts. There's some research out there... Should we care about "body psychology?" Message Boards Regarding Psychotherapy Topics
Do any of your patients regularly get support from psychotherapy message boards? If there are any, are you in support of this or not? Members discuss therapies, problems with therapists/psychiatrists etc. While I was doing an internet search, I ran into a message board like this. I perused the board, and saw that patients often encourage each other not to bring up certain things to the therapist. In one instance, a woman was very attached to her psychiatrist too the point were she would... Message Boards Regarding Psychotherapy Topics (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can/do/should psychiatrists practice psychotherapy?
From what I understand, they do receive training. But is it realistic? A personal preference? In my mind, there are waiting lists of numerous people where medication alone would be sufficient. And sure, maybe a patient can also see a psychologist. But is there any argument for “one-stop shopping”? What if certain patients want therapy and can’t get in with anyone else? Is the reduction in pay really so dramatic that it is unreasonable? What if you are interested in and enjoy doing both... Can/do/should psychiatrists practice psychotherapy? Billing for weekly therapist+med management
I'm meeting with a few clients weekly for therapy with med management. Most of the time is spent doing psychotherapy with occasional dose changes. I am new to billing insurance. I billed one so far as 99213+90836 (15 mins meds plus 45 mins therapy). Does this make sense? I'm concerned that the insurance company will view it as overbilling if something like this comes in every week for a client. Would it be better to do 90837 most weeks and then one week a month do 99214 plus 90833? It seems... Billing for weekly therapist+med management (Source: Student Doctor Network)
