Published guidelines/standards on session frequency?
Hello All - I'm just wondering if there are any published guidelines or general recommendations on the frequency of psychotherapy, either from the APA, insurance providers, or any other "official" source. In general the research I have read supports weekly psychotherapy and identified that every other week psychotherapy can still produce gains, though generally more slowly. However, the location where I currently work has a number of providers who see people very infrequently, like once a... Published guidelines/standards on session frequency? Is psychiatry trending toward drug therapy rather than psychotherapy?
Current first year medical student here interested in becoming a psychiatrist. I have found articles similar to the one below suggesting psych is becoming more drug based than patient based over the last years or so...which disappoints me somewhat. Are the majority of psych docs still having 50 mn-1hr psychotherapy appointments (my preference) or has it become more so like the 15 mn/drug refill case as suggested by the article (I am aware this was written in 2011).... Evolution of the Psychopharmacologist...?
Do you think it's possible to treat someone with Q monthly 15-30 minute "med management" visits? I don't. I'm curious what are the factors that made this conception the default of psychiatric training, where you might have access to good therapy training but that it's really up to us to pursue it...as a seeming minority of residents interested in performing psychotherapy? I get that it's cheaper. To have us, manage meds, a SW'er do therapy, and utilize group therapy modalities. But, the... Evolution of the Psychopharmacologist...? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Psychotherapy training at UCLA-Semel and NYU
Hello my lovely people, Can anyone comment on the quality and breadth of psychotherapy training at UCLA-Semel and NYU's psych programs? From what I've read on here, Cornell seems to be the gold standard if you're looking for excellent psychotherapy training and I wanted to know how UCLA and NYU chalk up to that standard. Thank you! Psych residents.. how much do you study?
Hello everyone. I'm a MS3 considering psychiatry. I want to get a sense of how much daily studying should we expect if choosing this field. Of course, pysch is well known to be a narrower knowledge base than other specialties in medicine. After internalizing DSM, how much extra studying does it this speciality require, especially when learning psychotherapy techniques. When compared with IM residents, who need to study every night to build a broad foundation knowledge base, how much do... Psych residents.. how much do you study? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Difference between a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a psychiatrist?
Other than the obvious length of training, I can't find a clear difference between the two. Especially now with the increased independense of nurse practitioners, they seem to do and function in the same capacity of psychiatrists it seems. I aldo hwve heard that Nurse practitioners get much more psychotherapy training, on part with psychologists. So what's the scoop (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Family Med fellow in mental health vs. Psychiatry?
So I keep seeing many Family Medicine fellowships in mental health/ behavioral medicine to help fill meet the needs for all the mental health patients out there who don't have a psychiatrist and rely on their primary care doctor.
