Experience billing +90833 when patient already has a therapist
So of course I am asking people locally as well, but I wanted to get a sense from the hive mind about how much pushback you get when using the +90833 add on code to 99213/4/5. Any advice or wisdom appreciated. As I mentioned in another thread I am looking at a position with a specialized therapy group and so probably the majority of the people I see will have a concurrent therapist. The idea of billing an E+M code with add-on psychotherapy twice an hour us much more consistent with my... Psychiatrists doing psychotherapy in settings other than private practice
I'm a medical student nearing the end of clerkship year, and I'm leaning towards psychiatry. In particular, I'm most drawn to psych because I really like getting to actually talk to my patients, listen to issues / traumas that they may have never revealed to anyone else, and I liked that in psych I saw my patients as whole people and not just lab values. I saw firsthand how much good can come out of even a short medication management visit, and how psychiatrists often incorporate... Kaiser Psychiatry Residencies?
Can anyone speak to the quality/type of training in a Kaiser psych residency? Is their model of training similar to their model of care? Do they provide sufficient psychotherapy? Would they prepare one for a career outside of Kaiser? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Psychotherapy Field
Hi. So, I finally got my LCPC and am about to take my LMFT exam. I am a career changer so I didn't know a lot about members of the field. Schools are graduating hordes of counseling and social workers every year. Initially, no one wanted to take interns or LPC's until Obamacare and the Marketplace. Suddenly, fully licensed clinicians realized they could have large group practices and make money, big money by taking on interns to work for free seeing welfare and low reimbursing insurance... Want to pursue psychiatry, but not interested in psychotherapy
Hey! I’m a 4th year US MD student hoping to apply for psych residency this year. I am almost completely sold on the specialty, except for one thing- I am not interested at all in learning psychotherapy. In fact, the idea of performing psychotherapy kind of stresses me out. My favorite parts of psychiatry have been outpatient med checks. Seriously. I enjoy the faster pace and shorter conversations. It’s cool getting to see improvement on a longitudinal basis, and it makes me feel like a... Want to pursue psychiatry, but not interested in psychotherapy (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Humanistically-oriented clinical/counseling PhD
Hi All, I'm interested in pursuing a clinical/counseling PhD program that emphasizes and values humanistic psychotherapy and ideals. This might include therapy that is process-oriented, emotional-focused and mindfulness-oriented. I've discovered a couple clinical programs that fit the bill (Duquesne for its phenomenology and York University for its EFT), but these are few and far in between. Counseling Psych programs may fit better what I'm look for and I've found a handful that look... Humanistically-oriented clinical/counseling PhD (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The med student who is longing for more psych
Current psych oriented OMSII here with a plan on taking a research gap year between 3 and 4. It's been a grueling two years and I'm happy to say that I've gotten through it. But my love for psych has dwindled. We had 2 weeks of psych during our neuro block then our professor literally disappeared. Questions not answered by email, office was closed, the whole caboodle. I'm eager to learn more about the latest research on psychotherapy, how to apply it to different populations and I thought... What Scheduling/Billing/Practice Management Software Do You Use?
We are in the beginning process of looking for a new Practice Management Software. We are a multi-site program, with 1/2 dozen or so clinicians (psychologists and speech therapists) with a primary focus on neurodevelopmental/psychological evaluations (little-to-know psychotherapy services; some speech treatment). We need a system for scheduling, billing, and tracking employee time and productivity, with EHR capabilities. Our current system is just OK- It was designed primarily for... Chicago Psychotherapy
Hi all - I'm a fourth year medical student in the process of thinking about what matters most to me in a future residency program. I was looking for some insight into the relationship of the various Chicago psychiatry residencies and their focus on psychotherapy as well as any ties to the local Chicago analytic institute. From what I have been able to gather online it seems like the University of Chicago has a psychoanalytic track that residents can pursue, and it also seems like... Board regulation of psychiatry?
Who regulates the scope of practice of psychiatry and is the body responsible for taking action against psychiatrists should an issue arise? Is it the American psychiatric association or the medical boards? I ask because I know psychiatrists perform tasks that typically aren't included with "medicine" (psychotherapy) and the medica boards state that they domt regulate non medical intervenations such as psychotherapy, accupunction, etc. So if an issue arises during a psychiatrists session... Family Medicine acting as a Psychiatrist
Hey Everyone, So I understand that FM physicians get training in Psychiatry as part of their residency. With this, to what extent are they trained to deal with Psychiatric patients compared to a Psychiatrist? For example, can a FM physician treat patient A for general medicine, then have pt. B come in for a Psych Diagnostic eval or a pt. visit w/ 30 min of Psychotherapy? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
