Benefits of getting psychotherapy as a resident
What are your opinions about undergoing psychotherapy as a psychiatry resident? I'm interested in the practice of psychotherapy and wonder if I'll be a better psychiatrist if I pursue the experience of being a patient. Despite some traumas in the past, I'm not suffering at the moment. I'm happy, well adjusted, and reflective. I've developed good coping skills and self-awareness. My program gave out a list of psychiatrists they would recommend. Most are private practice and encourage therapy... Benefits of getting psychotherapy as a resident (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Psych nurse practitioners and psychotherapy?
Do psychiatric nurse practitioners who want to practice psychotherapy have to get additional training and complete 2000 hours of clinical experience under a licensed psychotherapist just like an LPC or LCSW has to do? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Seeing Psychiatrist during residency
My program has a free and very confidential service where residents can see a psychiatrist for psychotherapy and medications once or twice a week. This service is extended to all of the residents at the hospital, not just psychiatry residents. I have been having trouble locating a psychiatrist in my area so I was wondering if it would be a good idea to avail of these services. I really would like to see someone this month and it appears that otherwise I will have to wait a while(>1 month),... Seeing Psychiatrist during residency (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Way to find a good psychologist in my area?
So, I'm interested in psychotherapy but the current psychologist I'm seeing isn't really doing much analysis. She just sort of laughs at my jokes and mirrors what I say. I'm hoping to find an intelligent psychologist who can analyze my comments and provide perceptive feedback. Are there are any websites or methods by which I can find a good psychologist? Perhaps one of reputed success or a strong educational background? (Source: Student Doctor Network Forums)

Irrational fears of clinical examination and self-doubt
Dear all, If you are easily offended, please do not read on. For a long time now, I have thought of studying medicine. There is only one problem - well, two: 1. Fear of "sensitive" exams, i.e. of the breast, vagina, anus or penis, and associated perceived dislike of examining fat, smelly people. 2. Self-doubt, due to previous experience of failure in academia (degree, 2:2) and very probably low self-esteem. These things pre-occupy me for far too much time in my daily life. I do regular psychotherapy (started during depression a few years ago) and they are discussed within it, but they are not the main focus. ...
