RE: Predictors of Early Continence after Single-Port Transvesical Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy
Radical prostatectomy has witnessed significant changes in terms of surgical approach and techniques. From the earliest open procedures to the innovative laparoscopy, and subsequently, robotic surgeries, each step has contributed to improving functional and oncological outcomes for millions of patients. More specifically, with the advent of newer and more precise robotic platforms, the ultimate goal is to be as minimally invasive as possible while maintaining optimal oncological results. In line with this philosophy, Intuitive launched the Da Vinci Single Port (SP) platform in 2018, featuring multiple innovations compared ...

Single-port robot-assisted radical prostatectomy
ConclusionBased on the existing literature, the introduction of SP-RARP not only enriched the repertoire of minimally-invasive surgical treatment options for prostate cancer but also provided the opportunity for urologists to develop new techniques that can improve perioperative outcomes and postoperative quality of life. Given the limited number of patients and heterogeneity in the patient selection and reporting of postoperative outcomes, further research remains necessary to better understand the different benefits and improve patient selection algorithms for the different techniques. Controversies in Post-Prostatectomy Incontinence Management: Role of Urodynamics Testing and Sequence of Continence Surgery with Salvage Radiation Therapy
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis paper evaluates the current evidence on the role of urodynamics in prostatectomy incontinence (PPI) and should male sling (MS) or artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) surgery be performed before or after patients receiving radiation therapy in terms of continence outcomes.Recent FindingsThe prevalence of PPI is more common in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy than benign prostatic surgery, and the presence of postoperatively de novo overactive bladder and urge incontinence is not common even without the addition of radiation therapy. Hence, the question arises whether patients presenting...

Editorial comment on “The Impact of Standard vs Early Apical Release HoLEP Technique on Postoperative Incontinence and Quality of Life”
Surgery provides the ultimate treatment for patients with BPH complications. Ideal treatment should provide removal of the entire gland with no complications during ambulatory procedures. Despite tremendous technological advances, this goal has not been met yet. Historically, open prostatectomy and TURP have been figured as „gold standard“ treatments for prostates over and under 80 grams, respectively. During the last thirty years, technological improvements have enabled a wide spectrum of mostly minimally invasive surgical modalities. (Source: Urology)

Anxiety, depression, urinary continence, and sexuality in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy: preliminary findings
ConclusionsIn the early post-surgical phase anxiety and ED are the most frequently detected components, while depressive experiences and decreased desire, typical of later stages, have not yet fully emerged. (Source: Supportive Care in Cancer)

Health-related quality of life following salvage radical prostatectomy for recurrent prostate cancer after radiotherapy or focal therapy
ConclusionssRP impacts HRQOL in patients with PCa after RT and FT with no significant differences. Comparison with HRQOL and BRFS of treatment alternatives is paramount to counsel patients for appropriate treatments. (Source: World Journal of Urology)

A pictorial view on false positive findings of < sup > 68 < /sup > Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT and their prognostic value in patients with prostate carcinoma after radical prostatectomy and undetectable PSA values
CONCLUSION: The presence of 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT-positive findings in patients after radical prostatectomy and an undetectable PSA had a low predictive value for future progression. The interpretation of 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT should always include a complex assessment of the clinical setting-the risk group, PSA value and degree of PSMA accumulation in the lesions. In these situations, further clarification of PSMA-positive findings is appropriate before deciding to change treatment.PMID:38629815 | DOI:10.1967/s002449912702 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Nuclear Medicine)
