Patient Reported Sexual Adaptation Following Prostate Cancer Treatment: An Analysis of Related Variables and Sexual Outcomes Associated with Sexual Adaptation Styles
Arch Sex Behav. 2024 Apr 12. doi: 10.1007/s10508-024-02855-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSexual concerns after prostate cancer (PCa) treatment are high. Flexible coping is a crucial element to maintaining sexual activity after PCa and improves adaptation outcomes. We aimed to identify potential sexual adaptation styles reported by men following PCa treatment, and to assess relationships among associated variables and outcomes. Individuals (n = 223) with PCa treatment history (e.g., radical prostatectomy [n = 165, 74.0%], external beam radiation [n = 83, 37.2%], hormone/androgen deprivation therapy [n = 83, 37.2%]), comp...

Quality of life after robotic versus conventional minimally invasive cancer surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis
AbstractOptimizing postoperative quality of life (QoL) is an essential aspect of surgical oncology. Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) decreases surgical morbidity and improves QoL outcomes. This meta-analysis aimed to compare post-operative QoL after oncologic resections using different MIS modalities. The PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and CENTRAL databases were searched for articles that compared post-operative QoL in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) or laparoscopic surgery (LS) versus robotic surgery (RS) for malignancy. Quality assessment was performed using the ROBINS-I and Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 (RoB-...

An Update on the Role of mpMRI and (68)Ga-PSMA PET Imaging in Primary and Recurrent Prostate Cancer
The objective of this work was to review comparisons of the efficacy of 68Ga-PSMA-11 (prostate-specific membrane antigen) PET/CT and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) in the detection of prostate cancer among patients undergoing initial staging prior to radical prostatectomy or experiencing recurrent prostate cancer, based on histopathological data. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed and Web of Science, and relevant articles were analyzed with various parameters, including year of publication, study design, patient count, age, PSA (prostate-specific antigen) value, Gleason score, standardized u...

Timing of Radiotherapy (RT) After Radical Prostatectomy (RP): Long-term outcomes in the RADICALS-RT trial [NCT00541047]
Ann Oncol. 2024 Apr 5:S0923-7534(24)00105-4. doi: 10.1016/j.annonc.2024.03.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The optimal timing of radiotherapy (RT) after radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer has been uncertain. RADICALS-RT compared efficacy and safety of adjuvant RT versus an observation policy with salvage RT for PSA failure.METHODS: RADICALS-RT was a randomised controlled trial enrolling patients with ≥1 risk factor (pT3/4, Gleason 7-10, positive margins, pre-op PSA≥10ng/ml) for recurrence after radical prostatectomy. Patients were randomised 1:1 to adjuvant RT ("Adjuvant-RT") or an observation pol...

Is Unilateral Lymphadenectomy an Option in Selected Patients with Prostate Cancer?
CONCLUSIONS: In our experience, the majority of patients with unilateral PCa had exclusively ipsilateral LNI. However, sparing contralateral LN dissection in unilateral PCa should not be an option. To date, extended pelvic LN dissection remains the gold standard for N-staging and cannot be replaced yet by unilateral pelvic LN dissection until high quality evidence supports this scenario.PMID:38583004 | DOI:10.56434/j.arch.esp.urol.20247702.17 (Source: Archivos Espanoles de Urologia)

The Impact of Delirium after Radical Prostatectomy on Cognitive Function and Health Perception during the Recovery Period
CONCLUSIONS: Patients experiencing delirium after radical prostatectomy are at a higher risk of cognitive function impairment and disease threat perception. A significant correlation exists between postoperative delirium and cognitive function as well as health perception.PMID:38583008 | DOI:10.56434/j.arch.esp.urol.20247702.21 (Source: Archivos Espanoles de Urologia)
