The accuracy and intra- and interobserver variability of PSMA PET/CT for the local staging of primary prostate cancer
ConclusionIn a large, multicentre study evaluating 600 patients with newly diagnosed intermediate and high-risk PCa, we showed that PSMA PET/CT may have a value in local tumour staging when pathological tumour stage in the radical prostatectomy specimen was used as the reference standard. The intra-observer and interobserver variability of assessment of tumour extent on PSMA PET/CT was moderate to substantial. (Source: European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging)

Reply to Letter to the Editor on “Predictors of Early Continence after Single-Port Transvesical Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy”
We appreciate the authors' Editorial Letter and concur with their comments regarding the continued minimalization of surgical invasiveness. We endorse the highlighted benefits of the single-port (SP) transvesical (TV) approach, notably its one incision, extraperitoneal surgical access, preservation of surrounding structures, minimal postoperative pain and opioid usage, and short hospital stays. In terms of functional outcomes post SP TV robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), we emphasize the marked improvement in urinary control, a benefit thus far associated solely with the multi-port (MP) retropubic-space-sparing (...

Antibacterial prophylaxis with fosfomycin at the time of the urethral catheter removal after radical prostatectomy (prospective randomized trial)
CONCLUSION: Antibacterial prophylaxis using two oral doses of fosfomycin 3 g on the day of urethral catheter removal and 48 hours after catheter removal after radical prostatectomy appears to be an effective scheme that reduces the incidence of urinary tract infection and the severity of lower urinary tract symptoms, and is characterized by a minimal risk of adverse events. It is necessary to carried out further research and develop clear recommendations for antibacterial prevention in urological interventions requiring prolonged urethral catheterization.PMID:38650404 (Source: Cancer Control)

GSE149226 Prognostic classifier for predicting biochemical recurrence in localized prostate cancer patients after radical prostatectomy
Contributors : L Mengual ; J J Lozano ; A AlcarazSeries Type : Expression profiling by arrayOrganism : Homo sapiensAccurate estimation of recurrence risk is needed for optimal treatment of clinically localized prostate cancer (PCa) patients. We combined classical clinicopathological predictors of biochemical recurrence (BCR) and molecular markers into a new risk score for predicting BCR after radical prostatectomy (RP). A retrospective study which included 122 PCa patients who attended our department between 2000 and 2007 was conducted. Total RNA was isolated from formalin-fixed paraffin embedded PCa tissue. Gene express...

National trends of surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia in Finland
CONCLUSION: The implementation of PVP did not challenge the dominating position of TURP in Finland, but it has probably influenced the overall use of other surgical therapies, excluding transurethral incision of the prostate. The results might suggest that the conservative treatment is accentuated, patient selection is more thorough, and surgical intervention might be placed at a later stage of BPO.PMID:38647246 | DOI:10.2340/sju.v59.32425 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Urology)

The impact of mpMRI-targeted vs systematic biopsy on the risk of prostate cancer downgrading at final pathology
ConclusionsDowngrading rates are highest when PCa is present in TBx only and, especially when the highest grade PCa is diagnosed by TBx cores only. Conversely, downgrading rates are lowest when PCa is identified with the same ISUP through both SBx and TBx. The presence of clinically significant disease at SBx  + TBx may indicate a more reliable assessment of the disease at the time of biopsy potentially reducing the risk of downgrading at final pathology. RE: Predictors of Early Continence after Single-Port Transvesical Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy
Radical prostatectomy has witnessed significant changes in terms of surgical approach and techniques. From the earliest open procedures to the innovative laparoscopy, and subsequently, robotic surgeries, each step has contributed to improving functional and oncological outcomes for millions of patients. More specifically, with the advent of newer and more precise robotic platforms, the ultimate goal is to be as minimally invasive as possible while maintaining optimal oncological results. In line with this philosophy, Intuitive launched the Da Vinci Single Port (SP) platform in 2018, featuring multiple innovations compared ...
