Adverse Events Following COVID-19 Vaccination in Adolescents: Insights From Pharmacovigilance Study of VigiBase
CONCLUSION: In this study, there were disproportionate reporting of immune-related AEs following COVID-19 vaccination. While awaiting definitive evidence, there is a need to closely monitor for any signs of immune-related AEs following COVID-19 vaccination among adolescents.PMID:38442719 | PMC:PMC10911943 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e76 (Source: J Korean Med Sci)

Cardiac Tuberculosis: A Case Series from Ethiopia, Italy, and Uganda and a Literature Review
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Feb 27:tpmd230505. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0505. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExtrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is estimated to account for up to 20% of active cases of TB disease, but its prevalence is difficult to ascertain because of the difficulty of diagnosis. Involvement of the heart is uncommon, with constrictive pericarditis being the most common cardiac manifestation. Diagnostic research for cardiac disease is frequently lacking, resulting in a high mortality rate. In addition to direct cardiac involvement, instances of cardiac events during antitubercular therapy are described. This case ser...

Effects of colchicine on the prevention of AF recurrence after atrial ablation: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionProphylactic use of colchicine after atrial ablation was not associated with a reduction in AF recurrence and pericarditis rates. In addition, there was no difference in the rate of all-cause hospitalization between the groups, and colchicine use was associated with gastrointestinal adverse events.Graphical Abstract (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology)

Role of Cardiac MRI in Pericardial Diseases
This article focuses on the CMR characteristics of the most encountered pericardial diseases and novel CMR techniques that may play an adjunctive role in the diagnosis, management, prognosis and the assessment of adequacy of response to therapy in patients with acute pericarditis.SummaryCMR has emerged as a powerful tool in the diagnosis of pericardial disease. This is a review of the current and future roles that CMR-based sequences play in not only the diagnosis of pericardial disease, but also in evaluating the need for medical therapy and gauging adequacy of response to therapy in this cohort. Semiquantitative 18F-FDG PET/CT in monitoring glucocorticoid response of immunoglobulin G4-related effusive constrictive pericarditis: a case report
Immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related effusive constrictive pericarditis (ECP) is a rare manifestation of IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD). It can lead to persistent pericardial fibrosis, resulting in cardiac tampona... (Source: BMC Cardiovascular Disorders)

COVID-19 vaccine safety: Background incidence rates of anaphylaxis, myocarditis, pericarditis, Guillain-Barr é Syndrome, and mortality in South Korea using a nationwide population-based cohort study
by Hye Su Jeong, Byung Chul Chun BackgroundTo properly assess an association between vaccines and specific adverse events requires a comparison between the observed and background rates; however, studies in South Korea are currently limited. Therefore, in this study, we estimated the background incidence of anaphylaxis, myocarditis, pericarditis, Guillain-Barr é syndrome (GBS), and mortality in South Korea. MethodsA retrospective cohort study was conducted using the National Sample Cohort (NSC) data. Using NSC, the background incidence rate was estimated by dividing the number of episodes during 2009 –2019 by the total ...
