Clinico-haematobiochemical and cardiac alterations in Trypanosoma evansi infected buffaloes of Andhra Pradesh, India
AbstractThe present research aimed to document the incidence, clinical signs, haematological, and serum biochemical alterations, as well as electrocardiography and echocardiography findings in 62 buffaloes (selected from a total of 240) infected withTrypanosoma evansi. The study spanned one year, from January 2022 to December 2022. Morphological identification ofTrypanosoma evansi was done by the presence of a centrally positioned nucleus with a small sub-terminal kinetoplast at the posterior position through microscopic examination of Giemsa stained peripheral blood smears. The incidence of trypanosomosis were determined ...

Management of Constrictive Pericarditis : A study of 43 operated cases
Ann Cardiol Angeiol (Paris). 2024 Apr 18;73(3):101742. doi: 10.1016/j.ancard.2024.101742. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic constrictive pericarditis is a rare condition characterized by clinical signs of right heart failure, due to the symphysis of the two pericardial leaflets. Our study focused on a retrospective analysis of 43 CCP surgery observations collected over an 11-year period (2003-2013). The mean age of the patients was 32 years; 65% were male; exercise dyspnea (95%) was the most frequent sign. Two main etiologies were observed: tuberculosis 58% and idiopathic causes 42%. All of our patients received a subt...

Acute onset of constrictive pericarditis due to acute myelomonocytic leukemia: A case and literature review
Intern Med. 2024 Apr 16. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.3505-24. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe herein present a fatal case of constrictive pericarditis (CP) due to acute myelomonocytic leukemia (AMML) in a patient who initially complained of an acute onset of chest pain two days after COVID-19 vaccination. An autopsy revealed pericardial infiltration of leukemic cells. CP is rarely associated with leukemia and only 14 cases have been reported in the literature. The etiology of CP in previous reports included leukemic infiltration, graft-versus-host disease, drug-induced, post-radiation, autoimmune, and otherwise unidenti...

Comparative safety profile of bivalent and original COVID-19 mRNA vaccines regarding myocarditis/pericarditis: A pharmacovigilance study
CONCLUSION: This population-based study provides evidence that bivalent COVID-19 mRNA vaccination is not associated with risk of myocarditis/pericarditis. These findings provide important insights into the safety profile of bivalent COVID-19 mRNA vaccines and support their continued use as updated boosters.PMID:38615382 | DOI:10.1016/j.intimp.2024.112022 (Source: International Immunopharmacology)

A Rare Case of Tuberculous Constrictive Pericarditis Due to Disseminated Tuberculosis with Response to Anti-tuberculosis Chemotherapy and Steroids in a Developed City State
Tuberculosis (TB) is a rare cause of constrictive pericarditis in the developed world, accounting for<5% of all cases.1 In countries where TB is endemic, tuberculous pericarditis is the most common manifestation of TB in the cardiovascular system and pericardial constriction can still occur in up... Extrapulmonary tuberculosis presenting as hemorrhagic pleuro ‐pericardial effusions with pericardial mass
We report a 59-year-old South Asian male who presented with a 1-week history of dyspnea and cough. He was found to have a hemorrhagic pericardial mass with a massive pericardial effusion. Pleural fluid analysis was positive for TB. The patient was successfully treated with anti-TB medications. Although rare, tuberculous pericardial involvement should be suspected in patients presenting with symptoms of pericardial masses and effusion. (Source: Clinical Case Reports)

Pericarditis recurrence is associated with milder electrocardiographic, echocardiographic, and laboratory findings
The objective findings of AP are less pronounced during recurrent events. Future studies should focus on the role of advanced biomarkers and imaging in defining true RP events. (Source: Internal and Emergency Medicine)
