Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 5906: A Smart Image Encryption Technology via Applying Personal Information and Speaker-Verification System
u Tam In this paper, a framework for authorization and personal image protection that applies user accounts, passwords, and personal I-vectors as the keys for ciphering the image content was developed and connected. There were two main systems in this framework. The first involved a speaker verification system, wherein the user entered their account information and password to log into the system and provided a short voice sample for identification, and then the algorithm transferred the user’s voice (biometric) features, along with their account and password details, to a second image encryption system. ...

Nanoformulations with exopolysaccharides from cyanobacteria: enhancing the efficacy of bioactive molecules in the Mediterranean fruit fly control
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Jun 22. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-28180-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe increasing demand for food has required intensive use of pesticides which are hazardous to the ecosystem. A valid alternative is represented by biopesticides; however, these molecules are often insoluble in water, and poorly bioavailable. Nanopesticides can be engineered to reach a selected target with controlled release of the active principle. In this work, capsaicin, an irritant alkaloid from hot chili peppers, and hydroxytyrosol, a phenolic compound obtained from extra-virgin olive oil by-products, were loaded in...

Identification and characterization of Brevibacillus halotolerans B-4359: a potential antagonistic bacterium against red pepper anthracnose in Korea
Our study aimed to identify potential biocontrol agents (BCAs) against major phytopathogens under in vitro conditions by screening the Freshwater Bioresources Culture Collection (FBCC), Korea. Of the identified 856 strains, only 65 exhibited antagonistic activity, among which only one representative isolation, Brevibacillus halotolerans B-4359 was selected based on its in vitro antagonistic activity and enzyme production. Cell-free culture filtrate (CF) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of B-4359 were shown to be effective against the mycelial growth of Colletotrichum acutatum. Notably, B-4359 was found to promote spor...

Three New Constituents with Anti-Inflammatory  and Antimicrobial Activities In Vitro from the Roots of Capsicum annuum L
Chem Biodivers. 2023 Jun 17:e202300691. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202300691. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThree new compounds, including two new sesquiterpenes (1-2), named Annuumines E-F, and one new natural product, 3-hydroxy-2, 6-dimethyl benzenemethanol (3), together with seventeen known compounds (4-20) were isolated from the ethanol extract of the roots of Capsicum annuum L.. Among them, five compounds (4, 5, 9, 10 and 20) were isolated from this plant for the first time. The structures of new compounds (1-3) were determined via detailed analysis of the IR, HR-ESI-MS and 1D and 2D NMR spectra. The anti-inflammatory activiti...

Non-Chinese herbal medicines for functional dyspepsia
CONCLUSIONS: Based on moderate to very low-certainty evidence, we identified some herbal medicines that may be effective in improving symptoms of dyspepsia. Moreover, these interventions may not be associated with important adverse events. More high-quality trials are needed on herbal medicines, especially including participants with common gastrointestinal comorbidities.PMID:37323050 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD013323.pub2 (Source: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews)

Ultrasound-assisted pH-shifting to construct a stable aqueous solution of paprika oleoresin using egg yolk low-density lipoprotein as a natural liposome-like nano-emulsifier
In this study, a stable aqueous solution of paprika oleoresin (PO, the natural colorant extracted from the fruit peel of Capsicum annuum L) was constructed. The solubility of PO in an alkline aqueous solution (pH 10.95-11.10) increased rapidly. However, the aqueous solution of PO (pH 12.00) was unstable, obvious stratification was observed, and the color retention rate was only 52.99% after 28 days of storage. Chicken egg yolk low-density lipoprotein (LDL) was added combined with ultrasonic treatment to improve the stability of LDL-PO solution. The method could decrease the turbidity by 17.5 %, reduce the average particle ...

Toxicological Evaluation of a Nonlethal Riot Control Combinational Formulation upon Dermal Application Using Animal Models
Cutan Ocul Toxicol. 2023 Jun 14:1-43. doi: 10.1080/15569527.2023.2220393. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNumerous adverse effects on human health have been reported in epidemiological studies of oleoresin capsicum (OC) and other riot control agents (RCAs). Importantly, the daunting risk of such RCAs can be neutralized by optimizing the desired concentration of such agents for mob dispersal. Hence, a nonlethal riot control combinational formulation (NCF) was prepared for dispersing rioters without imparting fatal outcomes. However, for desired utilization of NCF, it is essential to recognize its extent of potential toxicity....
