Newly Recognized Genetic Tumor Syndromes of the CNS in the 5th WHO Classification: Imaging Overview with Genetic Updates [BRAIN TUMOR IMAGING]
SUMMARY: The nervous system is commonly involved in a wide range of genetic tumor-predisposition syndromes. The classification of genetic tumor syndromes has evolved during the past years; however, it has now become clear that these syndromes can be categorized into a relatively small number of major mechanisms, which form the basis of the new 5th edition of the World Health Organization book (beta online version) on genetic tumor syndromes. For the first time, the World Health Organization has also included a separate chapter on genetic tumor syndromes in the latest edition of all the multisystem tumor series, including t...

Somatostatin receptor subtype 2A expression and genetics in 184 paragangliomas: a single center retrospective observational study
ConclusionsSSTR2A negativity was correlated with extra-adrenal tumor location and PVs in cluster 1B and cluster 2 genes such asVHL, FGFR1 andHRAS. Immunohistochemistry of SSTR2A should be taken into consideration in the personalized management of PGLs. (Source: Endocrine)

The risk factors for silent aspiration: A retrospective case series and literature review
CONCLUSIONS: Patients who should be prioritised or considered to be at a higher need of instrumental swallowing evaluation are those with IX and X cranial nerve paresis, tracheostomy and those who have had radiotherapy, with saliva swallowing problems, especially after paraganglioma, thyroid and parathyroid glands and middle and posterior fossa tumour surgery.WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on the subject Clinical signs of penetration or aspiration include coughing, throat clearing and voice changes, while silent penetration or aspiration patients aspirate without demonstrating any clinical symptoms. The most c...

Head-to-head comparison between [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC and [18F]DOPA PET/CT in a diverse cohort of patients with pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas
Conclusion[68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC and [18F]DOPA are complementary in diagnosing PPGL under the appropriate clinical  setting. [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-NOC should be considered as the ideal first-line tracer for detecting metastases of sPGL andSDHx-related tumours, whereas [18F]DOPA may be the optimal tracer for evaluating non-SDHx-related PCC, especially in detecting primary lesions and monitoring recurrence. Treatment of metastatic paraganglioma: experience of a single center
ConclusionThis is the only European single center analysis addressing outcomes of different therapies in mPGL. The results support surgery as a first-line treatment, being the only approach that may achieve complete response with satisfactory and long-lasting results. (Source: Endocrine)

Increased anxiety and emotional lability in a patient with SDHB gene mutation paraganglioma: a call to multidisciplinary approach
We describe a patient with SDHB gene mutation, who has been diagnosed with a jugular paraganglioma, and was brought to the hospital under Baker Act for threats made online. Since diagnosis this patient has been experiencing both anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The patient and a family member report increased emotional lability, and the patient reports multiple daily episodes of anxiousness. This case outlines the connection between paragangliomas and psychiatric symptoms, the impact they can have on patients ’ daily lives, and the importance of addressing the possibility of these symptoms and establish...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 584: Hypoxic Signaling Pathways in Carotid Body Tumors
Tao Wang Carotid body tumors (CBTs) are rare tumors with a 1–2 incidence per 100,000 individuals. CBTs may initially present without apparent symptoms, and symptoms begin to arise since tumors grow bigger to compress surrounding tissue, such as recurrent laryngeal nerve and esophagus. Also, the etiology of CBTs remains unclear since it is more likely to occur in those who live in high-altitude areas or suffer from chronic hypoxic diseases such as COPD. SDH mutations and familial inheritance have been reported to be related to CBTs. SDH complexes play crucial roles in aerobic respiration, and SDH mutati...

Functional paraganglioma, an uncommon cause of seminoma metastasis, diagnostic and therapeutic management
We report a 62-year-old male, with history of uncontrolled hypertension (3 drugs) in who, it was found an incidentally left retroperitoneal hypervascular tumor (5.7 x 3.5 cm) in the CT. It was demonstrated contact between tumor and left renal artery and ureter, without regional lymphadenopathy. The patient was asymptomatic, but had increased of norepinephrine (1141.1 pg/mL), epinephrine (93.3 pg/mL) and serotonin blood levels (264.1 g/L). The MRI confirm the tumor, with serotonin affinity in the 68Galium-Edotreotide PET/CT (DOTATATE) but not in the MIBG/Scan. Therefore, a paraganglioma was the suspected diagnosis. Tumor...

The inferior performance of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT as a diagnostic and theranostic biomarker in [177Lu]Lu-DOTATATE refractory well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors
ConclusionOur preliminary results demonstrated that [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT mainly failed in well-differentiated  NETs refractory to [177Lu]Lu-DOTATATE therapy and had a limited role as an alternative diagnostic or theranostic agent. Further investigations with a larger patient population are required to determine the impact of [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-04 PET/CT on NETs. (Source: European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging)
