Plug-Assisted Retrograde Transvenous Obliteration for the Treatment of Duodenal Variceal Bleeding - A Case Report and Literature Review
Korean J Gastroenterol. 2023 Dec 25;82(6):295-299. doi: 10.4166/kjg.2023.105.ABSTRACTDuodenal varices are uncommon complications of portal hypertension. Although duodenal variceal bleeding is infrequent, it is a life-threatening condition with a high mortality rate. Non-surgical methods for duodenal variceal bleeding include endoscopic band ligation, endoscopic sclerotherapy, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt, and retrograde transvenous obliteration. On the other hand, an optimal treatment strategy for this rare condition has not been established. A 38-year-old male with a history of alcoholic liver cirrhosis p...

Predictors of Subsequent Celiac Disease Seropositivity in Patients Diagnosed with Duodenal Villus Atrophy on Upper Endoscopy
ConclusionAge and ethnicity may be helpful when stratifying the likelihood of CD in the absence of supporting serologies. A majority of patients (69%) diagnosed with VA without prior CD serologies have negative serologies, consistent with seronegative CD or the spectrum of non-celiac enteropathies for which further evaluation is needed. The interaction of patients ’ physical status and time to endoscopy on mortality risk in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding: A national prospective cohort study
The correct time to perform an upper endoscopy is decisive in acutely GI bleeding patients. However, patients ’ physical status may affect mortality. We speculated that the physical status and procedural time could be the principal factors accountable for death-risk. The primary aim was to verify the interaction between physical status and time to endoscopy on mortality; the secondary aim was to verify th e interaction of the physical status and time to endoscopy on the length of stay (LOS). Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 5861: The Future of Minimally Invasive Capsule Panendoscopy: Robotic Precision, Wireless Imaging and AI-Driven Insights
Guilherme Macedo In the early 2000s, the introduction of single-camera wireless capsule endoscopy (CE) redefined small bowel study. Progress continued with the development of double-camera devices, first for the colon and rectum, and then, for panenteric assessment. Advancements continued with magnetic capsule endoscopy (MCE), particularly when assisted by a robotic arm, designed to enhance gastric evaluation. Indeed, as CE provides full visualization of the entire gastrointestinal (GI) tract, a minimally invasive capsule panendoscopy (CPE) could be a feasible alternative, despite its time-consuming nature and learning...

Duodenal microbiome in chronic kidney disease
ConclusionThe small intestinal microbiome in CKD patients is significantly altered, indicating that increased intestinal permeability and production of uremic toxin may occur in the upper small intestine of CKD patients. (Source: Clinical and Experimental Nephrology)
