Duodenal lymphangiomas: endoscopic ultrasound features
We present the case of a patient who underwent upper endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound with findings of two duodenal lymphangiomas.PMID:38469813 | DOI:10.17235/reed.2024.10338/2024 (Source: Revista Espanola de Enfermedades Digestivas)

Dysphagia and stenosis secondary to intramural esophageal pseudodiverticulosis
We present the case of a patient with smoking, alcoholism, cirrhosis and HIV who was endoscopically diagnosed with esophageal candidiasis due to an episode of dysphagia. After treatment with antifungals and PPIs, the patient remained asymptomatic for almost 3 years. He presented an event of food impaction that was resolved by an upper endoscopy in which an esophageal stenosis and multiple esophageal pseudodiverticulosis were visualized. The biopsies only showed chronic nonspecific esophagitis. The stenosis was dilated with a balloon and PPIs were continued, with good response. Esophageal intramural pseudodiverticulosis is ...

10-year follow-up results of the European Achalasia Trial: a multicentre randomised controlled trial comparing pneumatic dilation with laparoscopic Heller myotomy
Conclusions PD and LHM are equally effective even after 10 years of follow-up with limited risk to develop gastro-oesophageal reflux. Based on these data, we conclude that PD and LHM can both be proposed as initial treatment of achalasia. (Source: Gut)

Value of multidetector computed tomography angiography in severe non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding: a retrospective study in a referral bleeding unit
ConclusionAlthough esophagogastroduodenoscopy is the mainstay in the diagnosis and treatment of most non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding cases, multidetector-row computed tomography angiography seems to be a feasible and effective modality in detecting the site, the status, and the etiology of severe acute non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It may play a crucial role in the management of selected cases of non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding, especially those clinically severe and/or secondary to rare and extraordinary rare sources, effectively guiding timing and type of treatment. However, furt...

A Case of Refractory Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Successfully Treated with Endoscopic Anti-gastroesophageal Reflux Mucosal Resection by the ESD-G Method (with video)
Intern Med. 2024 Mar 4. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.3305-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 70-year-old man who had undergone treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) by a family doctor presented to our hospital with severe heartburn and dysphagia despite taking vonoprazan (20 mg) for 3 months. A diagnosis of vonoprazan-refractory nonerosive reflux disease was made based on esophagogastroduodenoscopy and esophageal function examinations. The patient elected to undergo endoscopic treatment for GERD. Therefore, we performed endoscopic treatment using the endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD-G) technique devel...

Severe Anemia from Multiple Gastric Hyperplastic Polyps in a Hemodialysis Patient after Long-term Use of a Proton-pump Inhibitor
Intern Med. 2024;63(5):649-657. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.2091-23.ABSTRACTA 90-year-old man on maintenance hemodialysis was admitted due to severe symptomatic anemia. Biopsies under esophagogastroduodenoscopy demonstrated that the cause of anemia was intermittent blood oozing from multiple gastric hyperplastic polyps. Even after successful eradication of Helicobacter pylori, he showed hypergastrinemia (480 pg/mL) owing to esomeprazole (proton-pump inhibitor) therapy for the past 4.5 years to treat reflux esophagitis. Seven months after we switched esomeprazole to famotidine (H2-receptor antagonist), those gastric polyp...
