Clinical tools for evaluating the severity of overactive bladder: A systematic review of psychometric properties
CONCLUSION: Overactive Bladder Symptom Score, the Overactive Bladder Questionnaire and the Neurogenic Bladder Symptoms Score are promising psychometrically sound measures. The Overactive Bladder Symptom Score has been applied to the most culturally diverse populations supported by studies of good methodological and high-GRADE evidence quality.PMID:38192076 | DOI:10.1177/02692155231225662 (Source: Clinical Rehabilitation)

Topical estrogen therapy ameliorates bladder estrogen receptor β expression in female patients with overactive bladder
CONCLUSION: Topical estrogen therapy ameliorates OAB in female patients, and this may be related to improved ERβ expression in the bladder mucosa.PMID:38186992 | PMC:PMC10767533 (Source: American Journal of Translational Research)

Epidemiological Profile and Attitudes of Pregnant Women Toward Urinary Incontinence: A Single-Center Cross-Sectional Study
ConclusionsUrinary incontinence was frequent in the first trimester of pregnancy with a predominance of urgency. It was hardly discussed during prenatal consultations and pregnant women were not aware of the pelvic floor muscle, its rehabilitation, and of gymnastics during pregnancy. Overactive Bladder: the Patient Perspective
We present a narrative review of literature published in the last 5  years surrounding the patient perspective of OAB.Recent FindingsOAB has a negative effect on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Management of OAB generates significant cost to the patient, including physician visits, incontinence pads, treatment of urinary tract infections, and management of skin infections and irritation. Patients with OAB suffer in terms of work productivity, food insecurity, and financial strain, and these effects are more profound in patients of lower socioeconomic status and education level. Recent literature investigating the ...

Evaluation of Food Effect on the Pharmacokinetics of Velufenacin, a New Muscarinic Receptor Antagonist, in Healthy Subjects
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of food on the pharmacokinetics (PK) and safety of velufenacin in healthy subjects. A randomized, open-label, single-dose, 4-sequence, 4-treatment, 4-period crossover study was conducted. Subjects received a single oral dose of velufenacin 2.5 or 5 mg in a fasted or fed (high-fat meal) state in each period with a 7-day washout. PK parameters including maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) and area under the concentration-time curve from time 0 to the last measurable point were compared between the fed and fasted states. Twenty-seven subjects completed the study. The mean area under the...

Effects of mirabegron on brown adipose tissue and metabolism in humans: A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionThrough our meta-analysis of 6 papers, we found that mirabegron has the potential to increase human BAT activity, REE, NEFA content, body temperature, HR, blood pressure, and blood insulin content. These effects may lead to reductions in blood glucose levels in obese/overweight and diabetic patients. Additionally, the activation of BAT by mirabegron could represent a novel approach for treating obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.Trial registration number and dateCRD42023413446, 04/11/2023. Factors Influencing Postoperative Overactive Bladder after Adjustable Trans-Obturator Male System Implantation for Male Stress Incontinence following Prostatectomy
J Clin Med. 2023 Dec 5;12(24):7505. doi: 10.3390/jcm12247505.ABSTRACTWe aimed to determine the risk factors for postoperative overactive bladder (OAB) in patients treated with an adjustable trans-obturator male system (ATOMS) for stress incontinence after radical treatment of prostate cancer. A prospective study was performed on 56 patients implanted with an ATOMS for PPI. Clinical and urodynamic information was recorded before and after ATOMS implantation. We built a multivariate model to find out the clinical and urodynamic factors that independently influenced postoperative OAB and the prognostic factors that influenced...
