Ameloblastic Fibroodontoma of Mandible Causing Tumor Induced Osteomalacia: A Case Report with Review of 88 Phosphaturic Oral Neoplasms
We report the first case of phosphaturic ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) manifesting as osteomalacia. Our index patient was a 33-year-old male who was diagnosed with TIO and AFO in the mandible was identified as the cause. Our case is unique as AFO is considered as a hamartoma. To the best of our knowledge, there is no hamartoma reported till date causing phosphaturic osteomalacia. As AFO demonstrates mixed epithelial and mesenchymal origin, we propose a new histopathological subtype of TIO —“phosphaturic tumor of mixed epithelial and mesenchymal origin”. A review of literature focused on TIO caused by oral lesions...

Renal epithelial and stromal tumor with a multiple cystic lesion localized in the upper portion of the right kidney
AbstractA 60-year-old Japanese woman was admitted because of the polycystic mass with right flank pain localized in the upper portion of the right kidney. Right nephrectomy was performed because the mass lesion had continuously increased in size over the past 10  years. A surgical specimen showed histology consistent with a mixed epithelial and stromal tumor, which is closely related to multilocular cystic nephroma, and was diagnosed by a defined capsule between the cystic mass lesion and normal renal tissue by CT and MRI, and histology. Localized renal cy stic disease that does not have a capsule was excluded from differ...

Mixed epithelial endocrine neoplasms of the colon and rectum - An evolution over time: A systematic review.
CONCLUSION: MEEN of the colon and rectum are poorly understood rare entities that encompass an extensive range of heterogeneous tumors with a wide variety of combinations leading to tumors of high, intermediate or low grade malignant potential. This proposed new revised terminology of MEEN will solve the biggest hurdle of confusion and misclassification that plagues these rare unique colorectal neoplasms thus facilitating the future design of multi institutional prospective randomized controlled clinical trials to develop and evaluate newer therapeutic strategies that are recommended for continued improved understanding an...

A Case of Congenital Hepatoblastoma Coexisting with Pulmonary Hypertension.
Conclusion: HBL is an embryonal tumor which can develop early in the intrauterine period. Although the mechanism is not known, it may cause PHT which would affect the prognosis negatively. PMID: 32979909 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Archives of Iranian Medicine)

Detection of PIK3CA E545A mutation in circulating tumor DNA of a patient affected by uterine carcinosarcoma
Uterine carcinosarcomas are biphasic neoplasms consisting of mixed epithelial and mesenchymal elements, representing less than 5% of all uterine malignancies. Carcinosarcomas are rare, although the most common cause of uterine cancer-specific death. Few information is available on the pathogenesis, and molecular characterization is poorly investigated. Consequently, the treatment has not changed over the last years and is far too being tailored, consisting of surgery and traditional chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Molecular characterization of liquid biopsy by circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA)/circulating cell-free DNA (ccfDNA)...

Mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney treated with minimally invasive surgery
Can Aykanat, Seref Coser, Aynur Albayrak, Altug TuncelUrology Annals 2020 12(3):295-297 Mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney (MESTK) is a rare kidney tumor that tends to occur in middle-aged and older women and is characterized by a distinctive histological appearance. Most of them were incidentally detected. A 26-year-old female patient was referred to in our clinic due to intermittent left lower back pain for 2 months and left renal mass. Abdominal computed tomography showed a cystic enhanced heterogenic left renal mass about 5 cm in the largest diameter was extending from the renal pelvis to the ureter and ...

Antenatal PPAR γ Agonist Pioglitazone Stimulates Fetal Lung Maturation Equally in Males and Females.
Antenatal PPARγ Agonist Pioglitazone Stimulates Fetal Lung Maturation Equally in Males and Females. Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol. 2020 Jun 24;: Authors: Lee C, Sakurai R, Shin E, Wang Y, Liu J, Rehan VK Abstract Antenatal steroids (ANS) accelerate fetal lung maturation and reduce the incidence of respiratory distress syndrome. However, sex-specificity, i.e., being less effective in males, and potential long-term neurodevelopmental sequelae, particularly with repeated courses, remain significant limitations. The differential sex response to ANS is likely mediated via the inh...

Dental Germ Tumor: An Unusual, Cystic, Mixed Epithelial –Mesenchymal Odontogenic Tumor
AbstractAlthough odontogenic lesions have been extensively described and studied, anomalous, challenging cases occasionally come to the attention of the pathologist. Here, we report the clinical and microscopic characteristics of an unusual cystic lesion of odontogenic origin. A 16-year-old male presented with swelling and pain to palpation of the right mandible as well as numbness of the right lower lip. Radiographically, the corresponding lesion was well-defined and radiolucent with internal radiopaque foci. It extended from the right first premolar posteriorly, approaching the angle of the mandible, and involved the man...

Clinical, histopathologic, subtype, and immunohistochemical analysis of jaw phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors
This study aimed to clarify the clinical and pathological features of jaw PMTs. We reviewed the clinical records of 39 patients diagnosed with PMTs in the jaws, and investigated clinical and morphologic characteristics, histologic subtypes, and immunophenotypes of all cases. Microscopic analyses revealed 2 major histologic tumor subtypes: “phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors of mixed epithelial and connective tissue” (PMTMECT), and “phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors of mixed connective tissue” (PMTMCT). PMTMECTs and PMTMCTs accounted for 29 and 10 cases of PMTs, respectively. Most PMTMECT diagnoses were made predominan...

Clinicopathologic characteristics of mixed epithelial/mesenchymal metaplastic breast carcinoma (carcinosarcoma): a meta-analysis of Chinese patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Breast carcinosarcoma is a rare subtype of metaplastic breast cancer. It is characterised by large tumour size, higher rates of axillary nodal involvement, higher rates of both local and distant recurrence, and is difficult to diagnose with preoperative core needle biopsies. Adjuvant treatment after surgical operation may improve the five-year OS of patients with breast carcinosarcoma. PMID: 31820860 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Polish Journal of Pathology)

Impact of microscopically margin-positive resection on survival in children with hepatoblastoma after hepatectomy: a retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsWith effective chemotherapy, microscopic margin status may not be associated with survival outcome in children with HB undergoing hepatectomy. However, stratified analysis showed that R1 resection might be associated with decreased survival in children with mixed epithelial/mesenchymal HB, compared with R0 resection, and not affect survival outcomes in those with an epithelial subtype and without metastasis.
