Current knowledge of ferroptosis in the pathogenesis and prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma
In this study, we performed a first attempt to collect the current evidence on the proposed roles of ferroptosis in OSCC through a comprehensive review. Based on clinical data from the relevant studies within this topic, we found that ferroptosis-associated tumor microenvironment, ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs), and ferroptosis-related lncRNAs exhibited a potent prognostic value for OSCC patients. Mechanistically, experimental data revealed that the proliferation and tumorigenesis of OSCC might be associated with the inhibition of cellular ferroptosis through the activation of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) and adipocyt...

Orexinergic Receptor Antagonists as a New Therapeutic Target to Overcome Limitations of Current Pharmacological Treatment of Insomnia Disorder
This study reviews the benefits and risks of current pharmacological treatments for insomnia, with special reference to the orexinergic system as a novel therapeutic target for treatment. The prescription of GABAergic mechanism enhancers (benzodiazepine (BZD) and "Z drugs") has shown efficacy in short-term insomnia treatment (less than 4 weeks), however, concerns arise regarding their long-term effectiveness, unfavorable tolerability and safety profiles, including the potential for dependency. Drugs with antihistamine properties, including certain antidepressants and antipsychotics, exhibit short-term efficacy but have doc...

Melatonin Mitigates the Progression of Chemically Induced Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Rats via Targeting Wnt/ Β-Catenin Pathway, and Small Noncoding miR-let-7b
CONCLUSIONS: Melatonin exerted hepatic immunomodulating changes, in addition to proapoptotic and antiangiogenic effects, illustrated by increased IL-2, caspase-3, and decreased VEGF levels, respectively. Moreover, the use of melatonin during hepatocarcinogenesis positively modulated the disrupted expression of microRNA let7b and Wnt/β-catenin significantly.PMID:38618269 | PMC:PMC11015929 | DOI:10.61186/rbmb.12.3.403 (Source: Mol Biol Cell)
