Orexinergic Receptor Antagonists as a New Therapeutic Target to Overcome Limitations of Current Pharmacological Treatment of Insomnia Disorder
This study reviews the benefits and risks of current pharmacological treatments for insomnia, with special reference to the orexinergic system as a novel therapeutic target for treatment. The prescription of GABAergic mechanism enhancers (benzodiazepine (BZD) and "Z drugs") has shown efficacy in short-term insomnia treatment (less than 4 weeks), however, concerns arise regarding their long-term effectiveness, unfavorable tolerability and safety profiles, including the potential for dependency. Drugs with antihistamine properties, including certain antidepressants and antipsychotics, exhibit short-term efficacy but have doc...

Systematic Review on the Relationship between Toxoplasmosis and Mental Disorders
CONCLUSIONS: Due to the limits of the study, no conclusions can be drawn in childhood and adolescence. However, the results of this systematic review show a possible association of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and compulsive disorder with T. gondii infection in adults. There is a need to improve control, integrated surveillance and extend prevention measures to the entire population.PMID:38622004 | PMC:PMC11015818 | DOI:10.62641/aep.v52i2.1658 (Source: Actas Espanolas de Psiquiatria)

Influencing Factors on the Efficacy of Aerobic Exercise Therapy in Depression: A Single-Centre Cross-Sectional Study
CONCLUSION: Smoking history, family history of mental illness, treatment compliance, severity of depression, and social support are the primary influencing factors on the efficacy of aerobic exercise therapy in patients with depression. These factors should be emphasized during follow-up treatment to optimize the clinical treatment effect.PMID:38622008 | PMC:PMC11015741 | DOI:10.62641/aep.v52i2.1585 (Source: Actas Espanolas de Psiquiatria)

Psychological Stress Analysis to Evaluate the Effects of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation on Mood Regulation and Quality of Life in Patients with Bipolar Disorder
CONCLUSIONS: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has significant clinical effects in treating BD and can effectively improve patients' anxiety, suppress emotions, and regulate patients' emotions. At the same time, rTMS has high safety and little impact on the balance of patients' autonomic nervous function, reduces the incidence of adverse reactions, accelerates the patient's recovery process, and is suitable for clinical promotion.PMID:38622010 | PMC:PMC11015814 | DOI:10.62641/aep.v52i2.1555 (Source: Actas Espanolas de Psiquiatria)

Study on the Correlation between Hcy and Hs-CRP Levels and Cognitive Function in Patients with Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder
CONCLUSION: High serum Hcy and hs-CRP expression levels may regulate inflammatory responses, aggravating cognitive impairment in patients with BD and BPD. Serum Hcy and hs-CRP expression levels are significantly related to cognitive dysfunction. They are expected to guide the prevention and treatment of BD comorbid BPD patients.PMID:38622012 | PMC:PMC11015817 | DOI:10.62641/aep.v52i2.1548 (Source: Actas Espanolas de Psiquiatria)
