Cost-Effectiveness of Diffusion Weighted MRI Versus Planned Second-Look Surgery for Cholesteatoma
CONCLUSION: Non-EP DW MRI surveillance is a cost-effect alternative to planned second-look surgery following primary canal wall up tympanomastoidectomy for cholesteatoma. Cholesteatoma surveillance decisions after initial canal wall up tympanomastoidectomy should be individualized.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: V.PMID:38676449 | DOI:10.1177/00034894241250253 (Source: The Annals of Otology, Rhinology, and Laryngology)

Real-World Adherence to and Persistence with Vibegron in Patients with Overactive Bladder: A Retrospective Claims Analysis
ConclusionNearly half of the patients initiating vibegron were adherent. Factors associated with adherence and persistence were more likely to be related to prescribing practices than patient characteristics. These results suggest it may be best to follow up with patients approximately 4  to 5 months after initiating treatment with vibegron. (Source: Advances in Therapy)

County-Level Cardiac Rehabilitation and Broadband Availability: Opportunities for Hybrid Care in the United States
CONCLUSIONS: Almost half of US adults live in CR deserts. Given that up to 97% of adults living in CR deserts may have broadband access, implementation of hybrid CR programs that include a telehealth component could expand CR availability to as many as 113 million US adults.PMID:38669319 | DOI:10.1097/HCR.0000000000000865 (Source: Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention)

Diagnosing and characterizing inflammatory myopathies at an Australian tertiary public hospital: Resource utilization and direct healthcare costs
ConclusionThe diagnosis of IIMs requires substantial and costly resource use; however, our study has identified potential limitations in current practice and highlighted the need for streamlined diagnostic algorithms to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare-related economic burden. Surgeon Perceptions of Performing Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion in an Ambulatory Surgical Center vs Hospital Setting in the Elderly Population: Results of a Surgeon Survey
CONCLUSION: Our survey data show that surgeons' perceptions of current CMS rules and regulations may hinder the transition into the ASC setting because they think the reimbursement is too low and the regulatory burden is too high. ASCs have disproportionally higher initial acquisition and ongoing costs related to staff training and maintenance of the TLIF technology that CMS should consider when determining the appropriate financial remuneration for these complex procedures.CLINICAL RELEVANCE: ASC offers a viable and attractive option for their TLIF procedure with the advantage of same-day discharge and at-home recovery.PM...

Business and Corporate Models for Interventional Radiology in the Office Based Lab and Ambulatory Surgical Center Setting
The landscape of healthcare is shifting towards outpatient settings such as Office-Based Labs (OBLs) and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). This transition, driven by the Centers for Medicare& Medicaid Services (CMS), presents various business and corporate models for interventional radiologists seeking to practice outside traditional hospital environments. The role of private equity and management services in facilitating these transitions is highlighted, offering opportunities for growth, efficiency, and enhanced control over practice operations. Can Generalized Cost-effectiveness Analysis (GCEA) Leverage Meaningful Use of Novel Value Elements in Pharmacoeconomics to Inform Medicare Drug Price Negotiation?
Decision-makers considering using cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) to inform health-technology assessment (HTA) must contend with documented and controversial shortfalls of CEA, including its assumption of disease severity independence and static pricing. ISPOR has recently introduced novel value elements besides direct healthcare cost and effectiveness for the patient, and these should be captured in CEA . While novel value elements advance our understanding of “what” should be measured (e.g. value of hope, severity of disease, health equity, etc.), there is limited direction on “how” to measure them in conventio...

Access to innovative anticancer medicines in China: a national survey on availability, price and affordability
Conclusions The overall accessibility of 33 nationally negotiated innovative anticancer medicines improved from 2020 to 2022. However, the overall availability of most anticancer medicines in China remained at a low level (less than 50%). Further efforts should be made to sufficiently and equally benefit patients with cancer. (Source: BMJ Open)
