Phytochemical Content of Malus floribunda: In Vitro and Molecular Docking Studies
This study has revealed the idea that this plant, whose phytochemical, antioxidant, and antimicrobial content has been determined, can be used as a bioactive substance equivalent to antibiotics in medicine, the food industry, and human nutrition. In addition, it is expected that the study will contribute to the plant literature. Molecular docking studies were performed to evaluate the binding interactions between the compound and human peroxiredoxin 5 and S. aureus. Both in vitro and in silico results indicated that synthesized extracts could act as potent antioxidant and antimicrobial agents.PMID:38153650 | DOI:10.1007/s1...

Gene structure and potential regulation of the lycopene cyclase genes in < em > Bixa orellana < /em > L
Physiol Mol Biol Plants. 2023 Oct;29(10):1423-1435. doi: 10.1007/s12298-023-01384-8. Epub 2023 Nov 13.ABSTRACTLycopene cyclases (LCYs) are a key branching point in regulating the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway in plants. Bixa orellana L. is characterized by the presence in its seed of bixin, an apocarotenoid of significant importance in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. Gene analysis provides the opportunity to investigate the LCY gene structure in plant species and its relationship with the synthesis of carotenoids. Coding sequences of the LCY genes were retrieved from a B. orellana genome DNA. Boβ-LCY1...

Characterization of prolycopene-accumulated Tan < sup > 406 < /sup > mutant of < em > Solanum lycopersicum < /em >
This study describes the characterization of the Tan406 (Tangerine406) mutant of Solanum lycopersicum. Fruits of Tan406-mutant plants have a unique orange color and accumulate prolycopene instead of lycopene. Genetic analysis revealed that a monogenic recessive mutation affects fruit pigmentation in the mutant, which inhibits the conversion of prolycopene to lycopene. Further, molecular analysis indicates that fruit phenotype is attributed to loss of CRTISO gene function, which encodes a carotenoid isomerase enzyme that converts prolycopene to lycopene. The loss of gene function is due to the deletion of 406 bp from the CR...

LYC inhibits the AKT signaling pathway to activate autophagy and ameliorate TGFB-induced renal fibrosis
In this study, we demonstrated the specific mechanism of LYC in activating mitophagy and improving renal fibrosis. The enrichment analysis results of GO and KEGG showed that LYC had high enrichment values with autophagy. In this study, we showed that LYC alleviated aristolochic acid I (AAI)-induced intracellular expression of PINK1, TGFB/TGF-β, p-SMAD2, p-SMAD3, and PRKN/Parkin, recruited expression of MAP1LC3/LC3-II and SQSTM1/p62, decreased mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and ameliorated renal fibrosis in mice. When we simultaneously intervened NRK52E cells using bafilomycin A1 (Baf-A1), AAI, and LYC, intracellu...

Amelioration of Atherosclerosis by lycopene is linked to the modulation of gut microbiota dysbiosis and related gut-heart axis activation in high-fat diet-fed ApoE < sup > -/- < /sup > mice
CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicated the protective effect of lycopene against atherosclerosis induced by HFD and further revealed that its mechanism might be its prebiotic effect on maintaining gut microbiota homeostasis and improving intestinal barrier function, consequently reducing serum LPS-triggered inflammatory response in the heart.PMID:38041095 | PMC:PMC10691047 | DOI:10.1186/s12986-023-00772-x (Source: Atherosclerosis)
