Biofouling. 2023 Apr 14:1-18. doi: 10.1080/08927014.2023.2199934. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn an era of antibiotic resistance where natural antibiotic substitutes are considered essential, the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities of Citrus limon extract on strains of pathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from pork were evaluated. The strains which form biofilms were more resistant (MIC50 = 2.5 mgml-1) compared to non-biofilm forming strains (MIC50 = 1.25 mgml-1). Use of C. limon extract at 20 mgml-1 concentration has resulted in inhibition of biofilm formation by 53.96%. Cyclobarbital, 5, 8-dimethoxycumarin, orotic...

A gap-free and haplotype-resolved lemon genome provides insights into flavor synthesis and huanglongbing (HLB) tolerance
Hortic Res. 2023 Feb 14;10(4):uhad020. doi: 10.1093/hr/uhad020. eCollection 2023 Apr.ABSTRACTThe lemon (Citrus limon; family Rutaceae) is one of the most important and popular fruits worldwide. Lemon also tolerates huanglongbing (HLB) disease, which is a devastating citrus disease. Here we produced a gap-free and haplotype-resolved chromosome-scale genome assembly of the lemon by combining Pacific Biosciences circular consensus sequencing, Oxford Nanopore 50-kb ultra-long, and high-throughput chromatin conformation capture technologies. The assembly contained nine-pair chromosomes with a contig N50 of 35.6 Mb and zero gaps...

The impacts of chitosan-essential oil nanoemulsions on the microbial diversity and chemical composition of refrigerated minced meat
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Mar 30:124237. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.124237. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEssential oils of Mentha piperita, Punica granatum, Thymus vulgaris and Citrus limon in olive oil as a carrier were mixed with biopolymer chitosan to prepare nanoemulsions. The formulations were prepared using the following ratios: 0.5:0.5:4, 1:1:4, and 2:3:4 of chitosan: essential oil: olive oil, respectively, representing 12 formulations based on four essential oils. Based on the characterization of nanoemulsions, M. piperita, T. vulgaris, and C. limon oils produced the smallest droplets. However, P. granatum oil p...

Citrus limon phytocompounds decorated nanoparticles control poultry pathogens
In this study, we employed molecular docking to evaluate lemon peel phytochemical's protein binding capability against various poultry pathogens. The nanoparticles (LP AgNPs) obtained from the lemon peel were characterized and tested for their antibacterial activity against more poultry pathogens. LP AgNPs were characterized by using UV-Visible absorption spectra, which revealed an absorption peak at a wavelength of 420-440 nm. The FT-IR analysis demonstrated that flavonoids and phenolic acids acted as capping, reducing, and stabilizing agents during the biosynthesis of AgNPs. EDAX showed a strong peak was observed at 3 ke...

Comment on: Making Lemonade with Lemons: A multicenter effort to improve outpatient sleeve gastrectomy amid the COVID-19 pandemic
The main reason for the popularity of Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) resides in its balance between effectiveness, safety, and technical simplicity. This apparent technical simplicity and the moderate postoperative physiologic derangements, make LSG a potential candidate for a same-day (SD) surgery procedure. In addition, the implementation of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols has contributed to the feasibility of SD LSG. In fact, pain and nausea are one of the most common reasons for delayed discharge after such procedures. (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases)
