Age-group associations of schistosomiasis prevalence from trial data, C ôte d'Ivoire, Kenya and the United Republic of Tanzania
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of S. mansoni infection in 9-12-year-olds was associated with the prevalence in other age groups and could be used to guide community treatment decisions.PMID:38562204 | PMC:PMC10976868 | DOI:10.2471/BLT.23.289843 (Source: Bulletin of the World Health Organization)

New era in right ventricular imaging with AI: Challenges and horizons
The intricate anatomy and complex physiological functions of the right ventricle (RV) have historically positioned it as a challenging area within cardiovascular imaging and diagnostics. Traditional imaging modalities, while foundational to the early understanding and assessment of cardiac function, often fall short in accurately delineating the unique morphology and dynamic behavior. This discrepancy arises from the crescent-shaped structure, extensive trabeculations, and the pivotal role it plays in pulmonary circulation and systemic venous return, all of which demand more sophisticated imaging solutions [1,2]. First imported case of Candida auris infection in Milan, Italy: genomic characterisation
ConclusionImportation ofC. auris from abroad has been previously described. We report the first case ofC. auris imported into Italy from Greece, according to phylogenetic analysis. This case reinforces the need for monitoring critically ill hospitalised patients also for fungi and addresses the need for the standardisation of susceptibility testing and strategies for diagnosis and therapy. Newborn and infant hearing screening for early detection of hearing loss in Nairobi, Kenya
Conclusions: Establishing universal newborn and infant hearing screening programs is essential for early detection and intervention for hearing loss. Data management and efficient follow-up systems are an integral part of achieving diagnostic confirmation of hearing loss and early intervention. Keywords: Hearing screening; newborn; infant; hearing loss; early detection; Kenya. Laser mapping spots ant colonies in dense forest
There are more than 10 quintillion insects on Earth, 200 million for every human. But studying them is tough: The animals are often tiny, and many live in places like soil and trees that make them hard to spot. Now, researchers have found a new way to spy on them. In a study published this month in Methods in Ecology and Evolution , scientists have used lidar—a laser mapping technique that has helped uncover hidden Amazonian cities —to identify a species of ant in its native acacia trees with more than 80% accuracy . The approach is cheaper than traditional fieldwork, the team argues...

Benefits and Challenges of Implementing an Adaptation of Family Integrated Care in a Ugandan Setting
Adv Neonatal Care. 2024 Apr 1;24(2):172-180. doi: 10.1097/ANC.0000000000001161. Epub 2024 Mar 28.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Family Integrated Care (FICare) integrates parents as partners in neonatal intensive care unit care. Our team adapted and implemented this approach in a Ugandan unit for hospitalized neonates.PURPOSE: This qualitative descriptive study examined the perceptions of mothers and healthcare professionals (HCPs) of the benefits and challenges of this new approach to care.METHODS: Fifty-one mothers of hospitalized neonates born weighing greater than 2000 g participated in the program.
