Enoxaparin is safe for the treatment of venous thromboembolisms in patients with renal dysfunction: A retrospective cohort study
Unfractionated heparin (UFH) and low molecular weight heparins (LMWH), such as enoxaparin, are commonly used anticoagulants for the prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolisms. Several studies have compared their safety and efficacy, including a meta-analysis that showed them to be similarly efficacious with no difference in bleeding risk [1]. While UFH has been used in practice longer, LMWH offers a more predictable pharmacokinetic profile and requires less laboratory monitoring. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Bleeding disorders of unknown cause; the role of physiological anticoagulants
A substantial number of patients that are referred to a hematologist for investigation of a bleeding tendency are eventually classified as having bleeding disorder of unknown cause (BDUC). A large BDUC cohort was described by Quiroga et al. in 2007 [1], and then in 2018 Gebhart et al. showed that 73  % of patients in the Vienna Bleeding Biobank, a study setup to systematically evaluate consecutive patients referred to the clinic with bleeding symptoms, have been diagnosed with BDUC [2]. This is in line with other studies indicating that BDUC is diagnosed with increasing frequency over recent years [3,4]. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Complications associated to midline- and long peripheral catheters in adults. Systematic review of literature and proposal for a standardized model for data collection
Long peripheral catheters (LPCs) and midline catheters (MCs) are indiscriminately labelled with different names, leading to misclassifications both in primary and secondary studies. The available studies used different methods to report the incidence of catheter-related complications, affecting the possibility of properly comparing the catheter outcomes. The aim of this review was to explore the complications related to LPCs and MCs after reclassifying according to their length. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Considerations for instituting pediatric pulmonary embolism response teams: A tool kit
The incidence of pediatric pulmonary embolism (PE) has increased by 200  % in the last decade, but at a single center, it is still infrequent. Given the unique epidemiologic features of pediatric PE, diagnosis is often delayed, and the management is empiric, based on individual physician experience or preference. Thus, there is a strong need for center-specific unifor m management of pediatric PE patients. In adults, the development of pulmonary embolism response teams (PERTs) or PE critical care pathways has shortened the time to diagnosis and the initiation of definitive management. Low absolute risk of thrombotic and cardiovascular events in outpatient pregnant women with COVID-19
Pregnancy may contribute to an excess risk of thrombotic or cardiovascular events. COVID-19 increases the risk of these events, although the risk is relatively limited among outpatients. We sought to determine whether outpatient pregnant women with COVID-19 are at a high risk for cardiovascular or thrombotic events. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Diagnostic strategies in postpartum individuals with suspected venous thromboembolism: A scoping review
The risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is increased postpartum and contributes to important morbidity and mortality. While there have been advances in evaluating diagnostic algorithms for suspected VTE during pregnancy, there is limited data for postpartum individuals. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

DOACs: A perfect fit for patients with bariatric surgery?
Extreme obesity (defined with a body mass index, BMI, of ≥40 kg/m2) is increasing worldwide, so bariatric surgery frequency is increasing to prevent and treat obesity-related health complications. Direct oral anticoagulant (DOACs), without need of laboratory monitoring, are the preferred treatment for venous thromboembolism (VTE) and atrial fibrillation (AF). Bariatric surgery comprises multiple procedures including adjustable gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD/DS). Multitarget strategy of GATA3 and high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma: Where are we now?
Ovarian cancer, particularly high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC), is one of the leading causes of death among gynecological cancer patients. In this regard, despite excellent cytoreductive surgery and platinum-based therapy, the HGSOC spreads and relapses often, with a poor prognosis. The tumor microenvironment (TME) has recently been found to play an important role in the carcinogenesis of HGSOC; consequently, interactions between the TME and HGSOC may provide a feasible strategy to target HGSOC [1,2]. The ISTH DIC-score predicts early mortality in patients with non-promyelocitic acute myeloid leukemia
This study examined the frequency and prognostic significance, with regards of early mortality, of the presence of overt disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) at AML diagnosis and its correlation with clinical and biological characteristics.A retrospective analysis of 351 newly diagnosed non-promyelocytic AML patients was conducted, utilizing the 2018 ISTH DIC-Score criteria to evaluate the presence of overt DIC at AML onset. Altered fibrin clot properties are associated with the progression of chronic kidney disease in atrial fibrillation
Formation of denser and resistant to lysis fibrin clot networks has been shown in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and atrial fibrillation (AF). We investigated whether such prothrombotic fibrin clot properties are associated with faster progression of CKD in AF patients. (Source: Thrombosis Research)
