Prognosis after cerebral venous thrombosis: Mortality during initial admission and at 30  days and one year after discharge in a large Canadian population-based cohort
Prognosis following cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is more favorable than other stroke types, but longer-term literature is limited, and trends over time are under-explored. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Recent monthly mortality for pulmonary embolism in the US
Seasonal variations in the incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE) have been described in recent decades. Stein et al. originally published the results of a search of the databases of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the National Center for Health Statistics to determine the number of annual deaths for PE in the US between the years 1980 –1998 [1], and concluded that PE mortality did not show significant variation with seasons. Effectiveness and safety of short-term anticoagulant regimens after left atrial appendage occlusion: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) provides an alternative for poor candidates of long-term oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy; however, anticoagulant therapy after surgical procedures has limited use due to associated uncertainties. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the short-term use of direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) and warfarin after LAAO. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Comparison of important factors to patients recovering from pulmonary embolism and items covered in patient-reported outcome measures: A mixed-methods systematic review
Up to 50  % of patients recovering from pulmonary embolism (PE) experience negative long-term outcomes. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are important in identifying what matters to patients. We aimed to identify PROMs used in clinical studies and recommended by the International Consortium of Hea lth Outcomes (ICHOM) and compare individual items with factors considered important by patients recovering from PE. The effect of factor XIa on thrombin and plasmin generation, clot formation, lysis and density in coagulation factors deficiencies
In this study, we evaluated the effect of activated FXI (FXIa) on the detection of factor deficiencies by global hemostasis assays of thrombin generation (TG), plasmin generation (PG), and clot formation and lysis (CFL). (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Real-world analysis of the PK-guided switch from standard half-life factor VIII to efmoroctocog alfa
Different factor VIII (FVIII) products were designed to extend FVIII half-life (t1/2), including the fusion of the Fc domain in efmoroctocog-alfa (rFVIII-Fc) and the PEGylation. These extended t1/2 (EHL) products reported lower infusion frequency and treatment burden, higher FVIII activity levels and better treatment adherence, compared to the standard t1/2 (SHL) products. EHL definition included improvements in ratio of t1/2 of 1.3 times and a ratio of area under the curve (AUC) of 1.25 times [1]. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Towards a greater understanding of reduced response to aspirin in children with congenital heart disease post-cardiac surgery using immature platelet fraction
A high platelet turnover rate may produce a population of platelets that confers an inadequate response to aspirin. We aimed to investigate the relationship between residual platelet aggregation and platelet turnover in paediatric cardiology patients on aspirin monotherapy by evaluating the fraction of immature platelets as a marker for turnover and secondly to test the predictive value of the immature platelet fraction (IPF) to classify patients as responsive or non-responsive to aspirin. Intracoronary antithrombotic therapy during primary percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with STEMI: A systematic review and network meta-analysis
The efficacy of intracoronary (IC) antithrombotic therapy, which may best prevent the no-reflow phenomenon during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), remains unclear. Therefore, we compared the efficacy and safety of different IC antithrombotic agents. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Thrombotic triad in microgravity
Thrombotic disease may be an underdiagnosed condition of prolonged exposure to microgravity and yet the underlying factors remain poorly defined. Recently, an internal jugular vein thrombosis was diagnosed in a low-risk female astronaut after an approximately 7-week space mission. Six of the additional 10 crew members demonstrated jugular venous flow risk factors, such as suspicious stagnation or retroversion. Fortunately, all were asymptomatic. Observations in space as well as clinical and in vitro microgravity studies on Earth, where experiments are designed to recapitulate the conditions of space, suggest effects on blo...

Exploration of rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) to characterize the coagulation profiles of newly diagnosed pediatric leukemia patients
Viscoelastic testing has been used in adult hematologic malignancies in conjunction with conventional coagulation tests (CCTs) to predict coagulopathies and tailor blood product replacement. However, there is a paucity of similar pediatric studies. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Direct and indirect effects of Puumala hantavirus on platelet function
Thrombocytopenia is a cardinal symptom of hantavirus-induced diseases including Puumala virus (PUUV)-induced hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), which is associated with impaired platelet function, bleeding manifestations and augmented thrombotic risk. However, the underlying mechanisms causing thrombocytopenia and platelet hypo-responsiveness are unknown. Thus, we investigated the direct and indirect impact of PUUV on platelet production, function and degradation.Analysis of PUUV-HFRS patient blood revealed that platelet hypo-responsiveness in PUUV infection was cell-intrinsic and accompanied by reduced platelet...

Adhesive properties of plasma-circulating and platelet-derived microvesicles from healthy individuals
Microvesicles (MVs) produced by platelets upon activation possess high procoagulant activity and represent a possible thrombotic risk marker. However, direct experimental evaluation of the adhesive properties of MVs and their potential role in thrombus growth is lacking. (Source: Thrombosis Research)

Shock score for prediction of clinical outcomes among stable patients with acute symptomatic pulmonary embolism
The Composite Pulmonary Embolism Shock (CPES) score has been developed to identify normotensive patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) and a low cardiac index (referred to as normotensive shock). We aimed to externally assess the validity of this model for predicting a complicated course among hemodynamically stable patients with acute PE. (Source: Thrombosis Research)
