Successful infliximab treatment for refractory COVID-19-associated multisystem inflammatory syndrome in two Taiwanese children: An experience from a medical center
Multiple inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare, yet serious severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-associated condition that typically presents 2 –6 weeks after infection. MIS-C is believed to result from a delayed hyper-inflammatory reaction to SARS-CoV-2, which leads to an overwhelming cytokine storm [1]. First-tier treatments for MIS-C include intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and glucocorticoids as immune modulators; however, refractory cases may require the use of biologic agents as a second-tier intervention [2–4]. The environmental risk factors associated with fetal macrosomia: An umbrella review
The present umbrella review evaluated the environmental risk factors prior to conception associated with fetal macrosomia based on meta-analyses and systematic reviews. We systematically searched international databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, until April 2023 by using some relevant keywords. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the AMSTAR 2checklist. The risk factor of advanced maternal age 35 –39 years compared with (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)

Anorectal malformations (ARM) and VACTERL association and severity of congenital heart diseases (CHD): Experience of 396 consecutive patients in a tertiary center
Congenital heart diseases (CHD) are the most frequently associated anomalies with anorectal malformations (ARM). Nevertheless, many specific aspects of CHD in ARM patients have yet to be studied. The aims of this study were to evaluate the prevalence and distribution of CHD in neonates-infants with ARM, and to explore whether the severity of ARM, and the presence of VACTERL association, had an impact on CHD rate, severity, and timing at first cardiac surgery. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals and neurodevelopment in children
The endocrine system plays a crucial role in the neurodevelopment of children. Starting from the prenatal period, maternal hormones, particularly thyroid hormones and glucocorticoids, significantly influence fetal brain development and psychomotor development following birth.1 Thyroid hormones are critical for normal neurogenesis, neuronal migration, differentiation of neuronal and glial cells, myelination, and synaptogenesis.1 Their deficiency can impair central nervous system development. Maternal hyperthyroidism poses a risk for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder in the fetus, whereas maternal hypothyroidism incre...

Development and survey of a questionnaire to measure parental perceptions of childhood defecation and constipation
There are insufficient data and measuring tools for parental perception of defecation and constipation in Thai children. The primary objective of this study was to develop a tool to measure parental perceptions towards defecation and constipation in children. The secondary objective was to identify parental understanding and misconceptions about these issues. (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)

Findings of a gastric perforation-related giant pseudocyst that spontaneously ruptured in a child
A 3-year and 7-month-old girl presented with abdominal pain, bloating, and vomiting of 3 days duration. An abdominal X-ray revealed two air-fluid levels in the left upper abdomen (Fig. 1b). An emergency ultrasound scan revealed a large, thin-walled cystic lesion measuring approximately 17 ×15 × 10 cm and occupying most of the abdominal cavity (Fig. 1a). The echo-free cystic structure extended from the upper abdomen to the pelvis. It had an internal fluid-fluid level and encircled the stomach. A further careful scan revealed a small depression on the posterior wall of the stomac h (Fig. (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)

Gastrointestinal perforation in extremely low birth weight infants: A single center retrospective study in China
Gastrointestinal perforation in extremely low birth weight infants, characterized by its rapid onset, multiple complications, and critical condition, poses a significant risk of infant mortality. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of pneumoperitoneum in extremely low birth weight infants (ELBWI) and explore the risk factors associated with gastrointestinal perforation in very low birth weight preterm infants. Additionally, we shared our surgical experiences in managing gastrointestinal perforation among extremely low birth weight infants. (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for tip localization of neonatal peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC): A prospective study
Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC), also known as percutaneous central venous catheter, is a type of central line commonly placed in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to provide intravenous access for infants who require continuous parenteral nutrition, long-term intravenous medication, infusion of hyperosmolar fluids and in whom peripheral venous access cannot be achieved or maintained [1 –3]. It is mandatory to confirm catheter tip position given that malposition may result in complications or mortality [4,5]. (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)

Maternal gestational diabetes mellitus and risk of allergic diseases in offspring
Gestational diabetes mellitus has been linked to inflammation, immune dysregulation in offspring, and changes in the microbiota. It may have long-term implications for the health of children. The aim of this study was to determine if gestational diabetes mellitus increases the risk of allergic diseases in offspring. (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)
