Concurrent validity of intelligence assessments in children with developmental disabilities in an Asian setting: Comparison of the Kaufman brief intelligence test – Second edition with the Wechsler Intelligence Scales
This study was carried out to compare the concurrent validity of the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test – Second Edition (KBIT-2) with that of two Wechsler Intelligence Scales (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition (WISC-V) and the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence – Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV)) in an Asian setting. Transaxillary endoscopic subfascial operation for persistent muscular torticollis in pediatric patients: A 13-year retrospective study in Taiwan
The endoscopic surgery for persistent muscular torticollis has been well-described and most are subcutaneous working caverns. As the sternocleidomastoid muscle is located beneath the deep cervical fascia that corresponds to the pectoral fascia, this study aimed to review our results of the transaxillary approach under the pectoral fascia and the deep cervical fascia. Weight growth velocity and growth outcomes in very-low-birth-weight infants developing major morbidities
Extrauterine growth restriction (EUGR) is common in very-low-birth-weight-infants and may be associated with poor neurodevelopment. The growth velocity of preterm infants is increasing over decades, but the relationship between growth velocity, EUGR, and morbidities of preterm infants remains unknown. Marcus Gunn Jaw –Winking syndrome following endotracheal intubations
A 4-year-old girl with developmental delay, born to nonconsanguineous parents, presented with focal status epilepticus and respiratory failure. Her antenatal and perinatal periods were uneventful. She had a stormy course with prolonged ventilation and multiple difficult re-intubations during her 1-month stay in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Her condition improved clinically over her 2 months in the hospital stay, during which her parents noticed peculiar movements of the left upper eyelid while chewing (Fig. (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)

Ruxolitinib add-on therapy in steroid-refractory graft-vs-host disease following hematopoietic cell transplantation: A single institutional experience
Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) is a major complication of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) despite peritransplant prophylaxis and subsequent initiation of corticosteroids (CS). Systemic CS therapy is associated with various side effects, which may increase the risk of post-HCT complications and negatively affect nonrelapse mortality.1 However, the prognosis of CS-refractory cases is dismal.2 (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)

Takayasu arteritis mimics dilated cardiomyopathy as its initial presentation
Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a chronic vasculitic disease of the aorta, proximal portions of its major branches, and pulmonary artery.1 Although it primarily affects young women aged 15 –45 years, it also occurs in infants and children.1 It is more prevalent in Japanese and Indian populations.2,3 Its clinical course is characterized by two often overlapping phases: the acute, active inflammatory prepulseless phase and the chronic pulseless phase.1 During the prepulseless phase, t he peripheral pulses and blood pressure (BP) may be normal, making diagnosis difficult. Phleboliths in digital vascular malformations in a child
An 8-year-old girl presented with swollen right third, fourth, and fifth fingers since birth, progressive enlargement, and occasional itching. She neither had other symptoms, including numbness or paresthesias, nor had a history of trauma or similar complaints within her family. On examination, swelling with visible dilated veins (Fig. 1A) was noted over her right third, fourth, and fifth fingers, while the rest of her examination was normal. X-ray imaging of the right hand revealed phleboliths on the right third finger (Fig. (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)

A 10-year-old girl with meningitis retention syndrome and reversible splenial lesion: A case report
Meningitis retention syndrome (MRS), a para-infectious disease, is characterized by aseptic meningitis and urinary retention, which typically resolve within a few weeks.1 Mild encephalitis/encephalopathy with reversible splenial lesion syndrome (MERS), a neurological disorder, can be caused by various viral or bacterial infections.2 MERS-associated MRS is exceptionally rare, particularly in pediatric patients.3 (Source: Pediatrics and Neonatology)

Invasive Lactobacillus infection in pediatric patients in a tertiary center in Taiwan – 16 years’ experience and literature review
Lactobacilli are common microorganisms in the human body. Some species were used as probiotics supplement for many purposes such as preventing necrotizing enterocolitis, or improving allergic diseases or diarrhea. Previously, Lactobacillus infection was thought of as contamination due to its low pathogenicity. However, there have been reports of invasive Lactobacillus infection in immunocompromised patients or patients with comorbidities. The purpose of this study was to analyze the clinical characteristics, antibiotic treatment and outcomes of pediatric patients with invasive Lactobacillus infection.
