Adverse pregnancy outcomes in sickle cell trait: a prospective cohort study evaluating clinical and haematological parameters in postpartum mothers and new-borns.
Conclusions –The study revealed that SCT is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, including maternal and neonatal anaemia, low birth weight and increased risk of still birth, miscarriage and admission to SCBU. Therefore, pregnant women with SCT should be regarded as a high-risk group, and given pre-conceptual advice and multidisciplinary antenatal and postnatal care. Management of latent tuberculosis infection based on t-spot.tb assay in patients with hematological malignancies
Conclusions:INH treatment was generally well tolerated, and serious drug-related side effects were observed infrequently. Although LTBI cannot be demonstrated in patients with HIV(+) HM who are scheduled for chemotherapy, these patients should be closely monitored for the development of active TB infection. Keywords: Hematologic malignancies, Interferon-Gamma Release Assays, Latent tuberculosis (Source: Mediterranean Journal of Hematology and Infectious Diseases)

Treatment of advanced systemic mastocytosis with midostaurin: practical guidance for optimal therapy and management
Systemic mastocytosis (SM) is a rare disease with a range of clinical presentations, and the vast majority of patients have aKIT D816V mutation that results in gain of function. The multikinase/KIT inhibitor midostaurin inhibits the D816V mutant, and has a well-established role in treatment of advanced SM. Even if considered the standard of therapy, some open questions remain on how to optimize the management of midostaurin in daily practice. The current review presents the opinions of a group of experts who met to discuss routine practice with the use of midostaurin in patients with advanced SM. The efficacy and safety of...

The growing role of the bh3 mimetic drug venetoclax in the therapy of acute myeloid leukemia
In spite recent progresses, acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains a disease associated with poor prognosis, particularly in older AML patients unfit to tolerate intensive chemotherapy treatment. The development and introduction in therapy of the drug Venetoclax, a potent BH3 mimetic targeting the antiaopoptotic protein BCL-2, inducing apoptosis of leukemic cells, has shown to be a promising treatment for newly diagnosed, relapsed and refractory AML patients ineligible for induction chemotherapy. Combination treatments using Ventoclax and a hypomethylating agent (azacytidine or decitabine) or low-intensity chemotherapy have ...

KIR2DL2, KIR2DL5A and KIR2DL5B genes induce susceptibility to dengue virus infection while KIR3DL3 and KIR2DS5 confers protection
Conclusion: The results suggest a contribution ofKIR2DL2, KIR2DL5Aand KIR2DL5Bgenes in the susceptibility of DF development. While,KIR3DL3 andKIR2DS5were found to be associated with protection against DF development by enhancing both the innate and acquired immune responses. Impact of covid-19 on outcomes of patients with hematologic malignancies: a multi-center, retrospective study
Conclusions: In patients with hematologic malignancies, coexistent COVID-19 leads to a higher mortality rate in elderly patients with more comorbidities. Acute myeloid and lymphoid leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma have the highest mortality rates. Cardiac diseases, cytotoxic chemotherapy, lymphopenia, thrombocytopenia, and high CRP are the independent risk factors for mortality in hematologic malignancy patients with COVID-19.Keywords: Covid; Hematologic Malignancy; Cytotoxic chemotherapy. Detection of antinuclear antibodies targeting intracellular signal transduction, metabolism, apoptotic processes and cell death in critical covid-19 patients
Conclusion: Our results further support the notion of routine screening for autoimmune responses in COVID-19 patients, which might help improve disease prognosis and patient management. Further, results provide compelling evidence that ANA-positive individuals should be excluded from being donors for convalescent plasma therapy in the context of COVID-19.
