Outcomes of overt and non-overt disseminated intravascular coagulation using the isth dic scoring system in children: a single-center study
Conclusions: The 28-day case-fatality rate was significantly higher for patients with overt than non-overt DIC and concordant with ISTH scores. ISTH DIC scores can be used as a clinical predictor for DIC in children. (Source: Mediterranean Journal of Hematology and Infectious Diseases)

Epidemiological surveillance of SARSCov2 in β-Thalassemia Patients in the last two years: reinfection rate, insights and future challenges
Background: Although the association between comorbidities and the severity of COVID-19 infection has been extensively discussed, data on COVID-19 and hemoglobinopathies are still limited. SARS-Cov2 reinfections with severe acute respiratory syndrome have been described in the general population, usually with a milder outcome compared to the primary infection. The aim of our study was to determine the rate of reinfection and clinical features in a population of β-thalassemia patients. Results: Following the first infection, patients showed an adequate humoral immune response, however, all four patients are considered immune...

Fever of unknown origin and multidrug-resistant organisms colonization in aml patients.
Conclusion: In our experience, MDRO colonization is a frequent and difficult-to-eradicate condition that can arise at all stages of treatment. Prompt discharge of patients as soon as clinical conditions allow could limit the spread of MDRO. In addition, the appropriate use of antibiotics, especially in the case of FUO, and the contraction of hospitalization length, when feasible, are measures to tackle the further spread of MDRO. Glucose homeostasis and Αssessment of Β-cell function by 3-hour oral glucose tolerance (ogtt) in patients with Β-thalassemia major with serum ferritin below 1,000 ng/dl: results from a single icet-a centre
Conclusions: This study showed that efficient iron chelation monotherapy in patients with β-TM and SF< 1,000 ng/ml did not entirely prevent glucose metabolism disorders, insulin secretion and sensitivity, and development of acquired hypogonadism. Downregulation of stearoyl-coa desaturase 1 (scd-1) promotes resistance to imatinib in chronic myeloid leukemia
This study investigated the possible genetic resistance mechanisms in patients developing resistance to IMA. We did DNA sequencing in order to detect BCR-ABL mutations, which are responsible for IMA resistance. Moreover, we analyzed the mRNA expression levels of genes responsible for apoptosis, such as BCL-2, P53, and other genes (SCD-1, PTEN). In a group of CML patients resistant to IMA, when compared with IMA-sensitive CML patients, a decrease in SCD-1 gene expression levels and an increase in BCL-2 gene expression levels was observed. In this case, the SCD-1 gene was thought to act as a tumor suppressor. The present stu...

Management of latent tuberculosis infection based on t-spot.tb assay in patients with hematological malignancies
Conclusions:INH treatment was generally well tolerated, and serious drug-related side effects were observed infrequently. Although LTBI cannot be demonstrated in patients with HIV(+) HM who are scheduled for chemotherapy, these patients should be closely monitored for the development of active TB infection. Keywords: Hematologic malignancies, Interferon-Gamma Release Assays, Latent tuberculosis (Source: Mediterranean Journal of Hematology and Infectious Diseases)
