Authors ’ Response
We thank Dr Rahim for his interesting and timely comments on our recent review article.1 Our review examined several functional interactions between dietary components and the gastrointestinal (GI) microbiome to evaluate whether or not alterations in dietary content could be used to target beneficial changes in the GI microbiome as an effective means to improve outcomes in cancer prevention, etiology, progression, and treatment. Characteristics Associated With Purchasing Sugar-Sweetened Beverages and Bottled Water Among US Households, 2015
Frequent intake of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) among US adults is a public health concern because it has been associated with increased risks for adverse health outcomes such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. In contrast, drinking plain water (such as tap, bottled, or unsweetened sparkling water) instead of drinking SSBs might provide health benefits by improving diet quality and helping prevent chronic diseases. However, there is limited information on estimated expenditures on SSBs or bottled water among US households. (Source: Journal of the American Dietetic Association)

No Observed Difference in Inflammatory and Coagulation Markers Following Diets Rich in n-6 Polyunsaturated Fat vs Monounsaturated Fat in Adults With Untreated Hypercholesterolemia: A Randomized Trial
Inflammatory and prothrombotic responses are hallmark to the progression of cardiovascular disease and may be influenced by the type of dietary fat. Cottonseed oil (CSO) is rich in n-6 polyunsaturated fats and improves traditional cardiovascular disease risk factors such as cholesterol profiles. However, some clinicians are still hesitant to promote n-6 polyunsaturated fats consumption despite growing evidence suggesting they may not be independently pro-inflammatory.
