Automated measurement of leakage on wide-field angiography in the assessment of retinal vasculitis
AbstractAutomated analysis of leakage on fluorescein angiography is a measurable and clinically applicable endpoint that can be used to follow patients with posterior uveitis. A number of studies have analyzed the use of automated analysis of leakage on fluorescein angiography and are reviewed in this article. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Severe visual impairment due to an optic neuropathy and central retinal vein occlusion in a sarcoidosis patient
ConclusionsOur findings suggest neurosarcoidosis of the unilateral retrobulbar optic nerve can cause compressive optic disc edema and resembles the central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) phenotype. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Characterization of cyclitic membranes by ultrabiomicroscopy in patients with pars planitis
ConclusionsUBM is a valuable tool for the diagnosis of cyclitic membranes at admittance and during follow-up of patients with pars planitis; it helps the clinician to detect this complication early. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Necrotic scleral melt and fungal keratitis —a complication of subtenon triamcinolone acetonide injection
ConclusionScleral melt is a rare complication of STAI; however, an early diagnosis and management of any predisposing factor along with surgical debridement should be considered as a potential critical treatment option to salvage the eye. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Ozurdex (dexamethasone intravitreal implant) for the treatment of intermediate, posterior, and panuveitis: a systematic review of the current evidence
ConclusionsThe DEX implant is an effective medication for the treatment of posterior segment uveitis, uveitic macular edema, and results in improved visual acuity. Development of elevated IOP and cataract should be closely monitored as they are tangible risks associated with the DEX implant. This study was not able to determine whether the DEX implant was more effective as a monotherapy or as an adjunctive therapy to systemic immunomodulatory treatment. Topographic correlation between multifocal electroretinography, microperimetry, and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography of the macula in patients with birdshot chorioretinopathy
ConclusionsThe structural and functional assessments in retinae of eyes with BSCR suggest that each imaging tool may be capturing unique aspects of retinal dysfunction. Multimodal imaging may allow detailed analyses of retinal damage at various corresponding loci. These findings are important when considering the use of these techniques in BSCR. Diffuse unilateral subacute neuroretinitis: review article
AbstractDiffuse unilateral subacute neuroretinitis (DUSN) is an ocular infectious disease that can lead to severe visual impairment and blindness. It usually occurs in healthy young individuals and depending on the stage of the disease, it may present as vitritis, multifocal gray-white lesions in the outer retina, and derangement of the retinal pigment epithelium, narrowing of the retinal vessels and optic atrophy. Parasites of different sizes and species have been proposed as the etiologic agent of DUSN, includingAncylostoma caninum,Toxocara canis, and others. Thus, it is hypothesized that different infectious worms may b...

Optical coherence tomography angiography in uveitis
AbstractBefore the introduction of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in the early 2000s, dye-based angiography was considered the “gold standard” for the diagnosis and monitoring of ocular inflammation. OCTA is a novel technique, which demonstrates capillary networks based on the amount of light returned from moving blood cells, providing further information on pathophysiological changes in uveitis. The aim of this review is to describe the basic principles of OCTA and its application to ocular inflammatory disorders. It particularly emphasizes on its contribution not only in the diagnosis and management o...

Tuberculous scleritis in a young Asian Indian girl —a case presentation and literature review
We report a case of a 9-year-old female child who presented with bilateral non-necrotizing anterior scleritis with unilateral posterior scleritis secondary to TB. To our knowledge, this is a rare presentation in pediatric age group, and she is the youngest of few cases of tuberculous posterior scleritis reported in literature. Does ophthalmic-grade silicone oil possess antimicrobial properties?
ConclusionMedical-grade silicone oil used in ophthalmology exhibited in vitro bactericidal and fungistatic activity over 30  days. Insertion of silicone oil in vitrectomy for endophthalmitis, when required, could supplement the antimicrobial activities of intravitreal antibiotics in management of endophthalmitis. Interleukin-6 inhibition in the management of non-infectious uveitis and beyond
ConclusionStudies have shown that IL-6 inhibitors can be effective in the management of NIU. In addition, the levels of IL-6 are elevated in other ocular vascular diseases such as retinal vein occlusion and diabetic macular edema. The roles of IL-6 inhibition may be broadened in the future to include the management of retinal vascular diseases and non-uveitic macular edema. Paradoxical reactions in ocular tuberculosis
AbstractParadoxical reactions following initiation of anti-tubercular therapy have been documented most often in extrapulmonary tuberculosis. A combination of factors such as delayed hypersensitivity, decreased suppressor mechanisms, and an increased response to mycobacterial antigens mediated by the host ’s immune system have been implicated in the development of these reactions. Similar worsening in patients with ocular tuberculosis while on treatment has been described. It is therefore important for the clinician to be aware of this occurrence, as prompt recognition and timely institution of cor ticosteroids and immun...

The broad spectrum of application of optical coherence tomography angiography to the anterior segment of the eye in inflammatory conditions: a review of the literature
ConclusionsThis review aims to establish the current application of OCTA to anterior segment disorders of the eye, with an emphasis on exploring its use in iris vessel dilation seen in various forms of iritis, as a predictive factor for further episodes of inflammation. In addition, OCTA can depict neovascularization of the iris secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Bilateral viral keratitis following corneal collagen crosslinking for progressive keratoconus
We describe a case that developed bilateral viral keratitis after corneal collagen crosslinking with riboflavin and ultraviolet A for progressive keratoconus.Case reportAn 18-year-old boy underwent corneal collagen crosslinking in both the eyes at the same setting for bilateral progressive keratoconus. He was discharged with a soft bandage contact lens and asked to follow up in 5  days. Seven days later, the patient returned with severe pain, redness, and photophobia for the last 2 days. The bandage contact lens was removed. There was a central corneal lesion in a branching dendritic pattern in both the eyes and the co...
