Optimising graft survival in endothelial keratoplasty for endothelial failure secondary to cytomegalovirus endotheliitis
ConclusionTargeted aqueous sampling for CMV-DNA perioperatively guides antiviral therapy and ensures adequacy of treatment, minimising the duration of systemic valganciclovir therapy to reduce adverse effects of long-term treatment. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Experience of using adalimumab in treating sight-threatening paediatric or adolescent Behcet ’s disease-related uveitis
ConclusionAdalimumab was effective in preventing irreversible sight-threatening BD-related uveitis in paediatric or adolescent patients. Adalimumab appears to be a promising treatment option for young patients with recalcitrant BD-related uveitis and has a favourable safety profile. Therapy-resistant dry itchy eyes
AbstractAn 8 years old male presented to our clinic with dry eye symptomes. Different therapiy attemps were made in the last few months and did not lead to any improvement. Examining this patient revealed multiple signs of vitamin A deficiency, which could confirmed by laboratory examination. The initial substitution of vitamin A led to a fast rehabilitation and a following nutrition consulting kept the patient symptom-free over 6 month follow up. Vitamin A deficiency -although rare in the developed countries- is an importent differential diagnosis of the dry eye especially in children. Vitamin A deficiency not only causes...

Effect of vitreomacular adhesion on the treatment outcomes in the STOP-Uveitis clinical trial for non-infectious uveitis
ConclusionsThe absence of VMA or development of PVD in eyes with VMA seems to have a beneficial effect on the vision of subjects receiving treatment for uveitis. Therefore, patients with uveitis should be assessed using SD-OCT for the presence of vitreomacular interface abnormalities. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Vitreoretinal lymphoma followed by systemic diffuse large B cell lymphoma
AbstractVitreoretinal lymphoma as the presenting diagnosis in association with a systemic lymphoma without central nervous system involvement is exceedingly rare, and the classification of this condition is not well-established. Here, we describe a patient with intermittent blurry vision in the left eye for 2  years in the setting of a recent incidental diagnosis of diffuse large B cell lymphoma from an axillary lymph node biopsy. The diagnosis of panuveitis with an extensive exudative retinal detachment was made. The patient was treated with pars plana vitrectomy as well as systemic chemotherapy, intr athecal methotrexa...

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) as a new diagnostic tool in uveitis
ConclusionOCTA as a non-invasive, depth-resolution imaging tool can give qualitative and quantitative information about the status of retinal and choroidal vessels, but also has certain limitations. Employing OCTA as a complementary rather than exclusive tool, it can give important additional information about the macro- and microvasculature under inflammatory circumstances. Thereby, it also contributes to the understanding of the pathophysiology of various uveitis entities. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Tinea corporis infection manifestating as retinochoroiditis —an unusual presentation
ConclusionWe report this case to highlight that one must rule out an infective etiology of retinochoroiditis before starting oral corticosteroids as it may worsen the infection especially fungal as in our patient. A detailed medical history and thorough examination helped us in diagnosing a systemic infective pathology and the possible cause of retinochoroiditis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of infective retinochoroiditis secondary toT. corporis to be reported. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Infectious endophthalmitis leading to evisceration: spectrum of bacterial and fungal pathogens and antibacterial susceptibility profile
ConclusionEndophthalmitis due toPneumococci, Aspergillus, andPseudomonas can be very fulminant and progress to require evisceration in spite of prompt and appropriate treatment. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Secondary dengue retinitis with associated occlusive retinal vasculitis
ConclusionSecondary dengue infection may manifest as retinitis with signs of microvascular occlusions in the retina. A high level of suspicion and IgG/IgM ratio may help in confirming the diagnosis. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Non-paraneoplastic autoimmune retinopathy: multimodal testing characteristics of 13 cases
ConclusionNon-paraneoplastic autoimmune retinopathy has a wide and often challenging to diagnose spectrum of clinical symptoms and imaging findings. Immunosuppressive therapy can be considered empiric in the face of a suggestive presentation and can be initiated after an evaluation of clinical findings and multimodal testing, though treatment does not appear to affect regeneration of the ellipsoid zone on OCT or impact visual acuity. Treatment should be primarily used to prevent disease progression and contralateral eye involvement.Trial registrationN/A (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Unilateral endogenous Candida endophthalmitis after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for a renal stone in an immunocompetent woman: a case report
ConclusionEndogenous Candida endophthalmitis following renal stone lithotripsy is a serious and rare intraocular infection that may happen in healthy individuals without any risk factors. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Evaluation of the etiology of persistent iritis after cataract surgery
ConclusionsRisk factors for persistent iritis after cataract surgery include being diabetic, of African American racial background, and pupil expansion device use. These patients can be better informed of the higher risk of prolonged inflammation in their post-operative course, and peri-operative management can be tailored accordingly. Injectable 0.19-mg fluocinolone acetonide intravitreal implant for the treatment of non-infectious uveitic macular edema
ConclusionsIn this small case series with long-term follow-up, treatment of non-infectious uveitic macular edema with the injectable fluocinolone acetonide implant was associated with improved central retinal thickness and corrected distance visual acuity and a manageable safety profile. The advantage of this device is the long-term drug release and the fact that it can be injected into the vitreous as a minor surgical procedure, which is in contrast to other treatment options. The ghost of the great imitator: prognostic factors for poor outcome in syphilitic uveitis
ConclusionsSyphilitic uveitis is reemerging. Delayed diagnosis and inadvertent use of systemic corticosteroids are potentially modifiable prognostic factors to be considered for possibly improving outcomes. (Source: Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection)

Blue light versus green light fundus autofluorescence in normal subjects and in patients with retinochoroidopathy secondary to retinal and uveitic diseases
ConclusionThe distribution and intensity of the AF signal differ in BAF and GAF and cannot be used interchangeably. In BAF, optic disc signal is always weaker than in other areas, which was not true for GAF where optic disc signal was stronger than fovea and hypoautofluorescent point in both groups.
