ConclusionMedical-grade silicone oil used in ophthalmology exhibited in vitro bactericidal and fungistatic activity over 30  days. Insertion of silicone oil in vitrectomy for endophthalmitis, when required, could supplement the antimicrobial activities of intravitreal antibiotics in management of endophthalmitis.
