Do recent meta-analyses truly prove that treatment with blood pressure-lowering drugs is beneficial at any blood pressure value, no matter how low? A critical review
In this report, we identify and discuss a number of shortcomings of the BPLTTC meta-analyses. In our view, the conclusions by the BPLTTC must be -together with accompanying suggestions to abandon the definition of hypertension - strongly rejected as they are not justified and may be harmful for cardiovascular health in individuals without hypertension. Dominant role of CACNA1D exon mutations for blood pressure regulation
Conclusion: CACNA1D gene is key players in the regulation of blood pressure. CACNA1D mutation rat may be a new hypertension animal model. (Source: Journal of Hypertension)

Hypertension-mediated organ damage in masked hypertension
Conclusion: These results support previous studies demonstrating early hypertension-mediated organ damage in patients with masked hypertension, and suggest that HBPM may be superior to ABPM in identifying patients with masked hypertension who have early LV remodeling and diastolic LV dysfunction. Differences in estimated glomerular filtration rate are associated with different patterns of 24-h ambulatory blood pressure in the general population
Background: Alterations of the circadian blood pressure rhythm are associated with cardiovascular and chronic kidney diseases. We investigated the relationship between 24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) patterns and eGFR differences in participants without chronic kidney disease. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the ongoing Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study, which involves 1733 participants (age, 60 ± 7 years; 938 women) with an eGFR>60 ml/min per 1.73 m2. The blood pressure dipping status was stratified as reverse-dipper ( (Source: Journal of Hypertension)

Stage 1 hypertension and risk of cardiovascular disease mortality in United States adults with or without diabetes
This study aimed to investigate the association of S1 hypertension, classified according to the 2017 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association blood pressure (BP) guideline, with cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in adults with or without diabetes from the general United States population. Methods: This cohort study included 40 518 United States adults (including 3555 with diabetes) naive to antihypertensive drugs who attended the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys from 1988 to 2014. Results: Participants were followed up for 489 679 person-years (mean follow-up, 12.1â€...

Restricted dietary pattern may contribute to lowering blood pressure in adolescents with obesity: Study of Cardiovascular Risk in Adolescents
Conclusion: In adolescents with obesity, a low-energy density diet was associated with reduced blood pressure. These findings are consistent with international recommendations for preventing elevated blood pressure. (Source: Journal of Hypertension)

Hypertension and contraceptive use among women of child-bearing age in the United States from 2001 to 2018
Background: Hypertension (HTN) in pregnancy is a leading cause of maternal mortality in the United States. Contraception is widely used, and estrogen-based combined hormonal forms are known to increase blood pressure (BP). With nearly half of pregnancies unplanned and many antihypertensive medications teratogenic, appropriate contraception is critical in child-bearing age women with HTN. Methods: Using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) from 2001 to 2018, we evaluated contraception and antihypertensive medication use in women of child-bearing age (20–50 years). Women who had under...

Time series proteome profile analysis reveals a protective role of citrate synthase in angiotensin II-induced atrial fibrillation
Conclusion: The current study defines the dynamic changes of the DEPs involved in Ang II-induced atrial fibrillation, and identifies that citrate synthase plays a protective role in regulating atrial fibrillation development, and increased citrate synthase expression may represent a potential therapeutic option for atrial fibrillation treatment. White-coat hypertension/effect is associated with higher arterial stiffness and stroke events
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between WCH/E, markers of cardiovascular risk and cerebrovascular events. Methods: This is a sub-group analysis of The Arterial Stiffness In lacunar Stroke and Transient ischemic attack (ASIST) study, which recruited 96 patients aged at least 40 years old with a diagnosis of transient ischemic attack or lacunar stroke in the preceding 14 days. BMI and blood pressure control among United States adults with hypertension
We examined hypertension awareness, antihypertensive medication use, and BP control, by BMI category. Methods: Data for 3568 United States adults aged at least 18 years with hypertension (BP at least 140/90 mmHg or taking antihypertensive medication) from the 2015 to 2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were analyzed. BMI was categorized as normal ( (Source: Journal of Hypertension)

Retinal microvascular abnormalities and risks of incident stroke and its subtypes: The Circulatory Risk in Communities Study
Conclusion: Retinal microvascular abnormalities were positively associated with the risk of incident stroke in the general Japanese population. Routine retinal photography could provide positive clinical insights into stroke risk stratification independent of blood pressure, antihypertensive medication use, and other risk factors.
