Trends in eclampsia in the United States, 2009–2017: a population-based study
Conclusion: Despite reductions in the eclampsia prevalence among women with chronic hypertension and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, public health initiatives are needed to reduce the overall eclampsia prevalence, especially in nonhypertensive women. (Source: Journal of Hypertension)

The relationship between intrauterine foetal growth trajectories and blood pressure in young adults
Conclusion: Our results show that restricted foetal head and abdominal circumference associated with higher adult SBP over two decades later, reinforcing the importance of the early intrauterine environment and its influence on adult BP. (Source: Journal of Hypertension)

Cross-sectional comparison of office and ambulatory pulse wave velocity by two methods, and their changes after lifestyle or medical interventions in hypertension
Objective: Pulse wave velocity (PWV), the most accepted biomarker of arterial stiffening can be measured by different methods and in the past decade, its 24 h monitoring has also become available. The aim of our study was to compare office and ambulatory PWVs and in a proportion of patients to compare the changes of PWVs after the initiation of lifestyle modifications or antihypertensive medication. Methods: Office carotid–femoral PWV was measured with the tonometric PulsePen device (PP PWV), first hour and 24 h ambulatory oscillometric PWVs were evaluated with Mobil-O-Graph (MOB first hour PWV and MOB 24â...

Effect of dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers on blood pressure variability in the SPRINT trial: a treatment effects approach
Conclusion: In the SPRINT trial, consistent use of a dihydropyridine CCB was associated with a 2 mmHg reduction in vvBPV. The implication of this hypothesis-generating finding in a high-quality dataset is that future trials to reduce vvBPV could consider using dihydropyridine CCBs. (Source: Journal of Hypertension)

Validity and reliability of 1-h automated office blood pressure measurement for the diagnosis of hypertension
Conclusion: One-hour automated blood pressure measurement is a valid, reliable method for the diagnosis of hypertension in undiagnosed patients. The diagnostic accuracy permits detection of white-coat and masked hypertension. To diagnose hypertension, the 1-h method or conventional home blood pressure monitoring should be used rather than office measurements. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03147573. Low-dose angiotensin II supplementation restores flow-induced dilation mechanisms in cerebral arteries of Sprague-Dawley rats on a high salt diet
Conclusion: Physiological levels of circulating ANG II are crucial to maintain the HIF-1α dependent mechanisms of FID and vascular oxidative balance without affecting mean arterial pressure. (Source: Journal of Hypertension)

Serum cortisol-to-cortisone ratio and 11-deoxycortisol are associated with hypertension and blood pressure in Chinese rural population: a cross sectional study
Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the associations of cortisol-to-cortisone ratio (F/E) and 11-deoxycortisol (S) in hypertension and blood pressure among Chinese rural population. Methods: A total of 6233 participants from the Henan Rural Cohort Study were included. Serum cortisol (F), cortisone (E), and S were assessed using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. Generalized linear model (GLM) and logistic regression model were performed to assess the associations of F, E, F/E, and S with blood pressure and hypertension. Moreover, the sex specificity of the associations was assessed. ...

Ambulatory blood pressure and hypertension control in children with autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease: clinical experience from two central European tertiary centres
Conclusion: The prevalence of ambulatory hypertension is very high in children with ARPKD, while the control of hypertension improves over time. (Source: Journal of Hypertension)

Impact of early glomerular filtration rate decline in response to antihypertensive treatment on risk of end-stage kidney disease and cardiovascular outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Blood pressure control, which can induce a slight decrease in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), plays a nephron- and cardioprotective role. However, the more important early decline in GFR associated with antihypertensive therapy and strict blood pressure targets is still of concern. Since few data are available from trials and observational studies, and the phenomenon is relatively rare, we performed a meta-analysis of available studies. We conclude that major reductions in the glomerular filtration rate occurring soon after starting angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors/angiotensin receptor blockers and/or unde...

Direct comparison of the reproducibility of in-office and self-measured home blood pressures
Objective: The aim was to compare short-term and long-term reproducibilities of in-office unattended blood pressure (BP), namely automated office blood pressure (AOBP), conventionally measured attended office BP, and self-measured home BP. Methods: A multicentre, clinical study was conducted in Japan, and 287 Japanese outpatients on antihypertensive drug medication were followed-up for 1 year. Results: The intensity of drug treatment was sustained consistently throughout the study period (defined daily doses, 1.62–1.68; P = 0.12). The mean SBP differences between baseline and 1 month later, as wel...
