The relationship between Clostridium butyricum and colorectal cancer
Hairong Liu, Xin Xu, Jing Liang, Jun Wang, Yan LiJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics 2022 18(7):1855-1859 Gut microbiota dysbiosis is involved in intestinal diseases. The resident microorganisms in the digestive tract contribute to maintenance of gut homeostasis. Some bacterial species have been identified and are suspected to play a role in colorectal cancer (CRC). Many studies have found that Clostridium butyricum has a close relationship with CRC, and the mechanism is becoming increasingly clear. This review discusses the possible relationship between C. butyricum and CRC. (Source: Journal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics)

Clinical guidelines for microwave ablation of spinal metastases
Tao Yang, Jin Ke, Shi Cheng, Yue He, Wenhan Huang, Mengyu Yao, Jielong Zhou, Guoqing Zhong, Yongcheng Hu, Yu ZhangJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics 2022 18(7):1845-1854 Spinal metastases are the most common source of morbidity in patients with cancer. Recently, microwave ablation has produced satisfactory results in the management of spinal metastases. However, there is still controversy in terms of clinical treatment, such as indication, power, time, and temperature. To standardize the application of microwave ablation technology and reduce the risk of surgical-related complications in spinal metastases, in thi...

Cerebellar metastasis of colon cancer at diagnosis: A very rare case
Melih Simsek, Murat DeveciJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics 2022 18(9):493-494 Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths worldwide. Besides, brain metastasis from CRC is relatively rare. A 68-year-old male referred to the emergency clinic with headache, vertigo, nausea, and vomiting. A cerebellar mass lesion was determined and totally excised. Pathology revealed a metastatic adenocarcinoma. Colonoscopic biopsy obtained from the lesion in the colon was reported as adenocarcinoma. A cerebellar recurrent lesion occurred, and radiotherapy was initiated. After radiotherapy, FOLFOX-bevacizu...

MRI-guided stereotactic ablative radiation therapy for liver metastasis from pancreatic cancer
Yukihiro Hama, Etsuko TateJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics 2022 18(9):489-492 A 69-year-old man with a history of pancreatic cancer was referred to our hospital for a newly developed solitary liver metastasis. Since the liver metastasis was in contact with the small intestine, it was necessary to perform radiation therapy while simultaneously monitoring the small intestine and liver metastasis, and then, MRI-guided stereotactic ablative radiation therapy (SABR) was performed. There were no radiation-induced adverse events during the treatment and 6 months of follow-up. MRI showed complete regression of the tumo...

Breast metastasis in follicular thyroid cancer patient
Seyit Ahmet Ertürk, Zekiye Hasbek, Gülhan Duman, Barış SariakçaliJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics 2022 18(9):486-488 In this case report, we aimed to present the findings of a follicular thyroid carcinoma patient with breast metastasis, which is rarely reported in the literature. A 33-year-old female who had been operated for thyroid cancer 17 years ago, but whose pathology report could not be reached was suspected of recurrence in the left lobe region of the thyroid gland. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy was done in this region, and the biopsy result wa...

A case of soft-tissue tumor over the sternum: A rare case report
The objective is to report a rare case of extragonadal seminoma over the manubrium sterni on the chest wall. A 42-year-old male patient, a chronic alcoholic for 10 years presented with a firm mass of approximate size 10 cm × 12 cm overlying the manubrium part of the sternum. A clinical diagnosis of soft-tissue tumor was made. All relevant preoperative workup was done. Fine-needle aspiration cytology of the mass was suggestive of serous cystic lesion with chronic inflammation. Wide local excision of the mass and primary closure of the wound was done, followed by histopathological examination. Unanticipatedly, on...

Novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in a 12-year-old boy with acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Wulandewi Marhaeni, Ni Made Yuliari Abdiwati, Andreas Budi WijayaJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics 2022 18(9):478-480 Pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) with COVID-19 might still have a risk of severe infection due to immunocompromised condition. The clinical features in oncology population are quite similar to those of previous reports in general pediatric cases. Chemotherapy should be arranged individually to balance the risk between leukemia progressivity itself and COVID-19 complications. Interruptions of therapy must be thought in cases with severe or symptomatic infection of severe acute respirat...

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm: A clinicopathological diagnostic dilemma report of three cases with review of literature
Suvendu Purkait, Sanjeev Gupta, Sameer Bakhshi, Saumyaranjan MallickJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics 2022 18(9):471-474 Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a highly aggressive hematologic neoplasm and classified under acute myeloid leukemia. Here, we describe the clinicopathological features of three cases of BPDCN: two with classical and one uncommon immunophenotype. A-35-year-old female (case 1) presented with complaint of nasal mass and generalized lymphadenopathy. Biopsy from axillary lymph node showed infiltration by cells with scant cytoplasm which were immunopositive for LCA, CD4, CD4...

Reirradiation and re-reirradiation in head-and-neck cancers: Learnings based on a case irradiated six times
Dinesh Singh, Arun Goel, Prekshi Chaudhary, Bala SubramaniamJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics 2022 18(9):467-470 Second primary cancers and locoregional recurrences in head and neck cancers are common. Management is challenging owing to the effects of previous treatment. Locoregional therapy, whenever feasible, offers possibility of cure. We have managed a patient who has over a period of 15 years been treated seven times. Treatment included surgical resection four times, flap reconstruction thrice, postoperative radiation thrice, radiation therapy alone thrice. Brachytherapy has been used in two instances, intr...
