Biomarkers identification in follicular fluid in relation to live birth in in vitro fertilization of women with polycystic ovary syndrome in different subtypes by using UPLC-MS method
CONCLUSION: The follicular fluid of women with PCOS showed unique metabolic characteristics. Our study provides better identification of PCOS follicular fluid metabolic dynamics, which may serve as potential biomarkers of live birth.PMID:38508572 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.117860 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Evidence of ostarine excretion in oral fluid after a single controlled oral administration
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Mar 16;557:117879. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2024.117879. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe presence of ostarine, a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) in an athlete's urine specimen constitutes one of the most frequent anti-doping rules violation as the drug is listed as a member of the S1.2 class "other anabolic agents" of the World Anti-doping Agency Prohibited List, forbidden in- and out-competition. It is possible to challenge this violation but it is at the charge of the athlete to prove innocence. The conditions to evidence no fault or negligence are mostly based on 2 points: 1. the athlete mu...

Electrochemical biosensors for early diagnosis of glioblastoma
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Mar 15:117878. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2024.117878. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlioblastoma (GBM) is a highly aggressive and life-threatening neurological malignancy of predominant astrocyte origin. This type of neoplasm can develop in either the brain or the spine and is also known as glioblastoma multiforme. Although current diagnostic methods such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) facilitate tumor location, these approaches are unable to assess disease severity. Furthermore, interpretation of imaging studies requires significant expertise which can have substan...

A method for measuring serum levels of melanin-associated indole metabolites using LC-MS/MS and its application to malignant melanoma
CONCLUSION: We successfully established measurement methods for serum 5H6MI2C and 6H5MI2C levels using LC-MS/MS. Serum 6H5MI2C levels offer a potential marker for MM.PMID:38493943 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.117873 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Breast cancer derived exosomes: Theragnostic perspectives and implications
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Mar 15:117875. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2024.117875. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBreast cancer (BC) is the most prevalent malignancy affecting women worldwide. Although conventional treatments such as chemotherapy, surgery, hormone therapy, radiation therapy, and biological therapy are commonly used, they often entail significant side effects. Therefore, there is a critical need to investigate more cost-effective and efficient treatment modalities in BC. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), including exosomes, microvesicles, and apoptotic bodies, play a crucial role in modulating recipient cell behaviour and driv...

External quality assurance in the era of standardization
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Mar 15:117876. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2024.117876. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetrology in clinical chemistry aims to ensure the equivalence of measurement results from different in-vitro diagnostic measurement devices (IVD MD) for use in healthcare. The metrological traceability of measurement results to higher-order references is the cornerstone to achieving equivalent results. However, other fundamentals are also needed, including the commutability of reference materials and external quality assessment (EQA) materials for monitoring the equivalence of measurement results at the end-user level. This m...

Epigenetics of Diabetes: A bioinformatic approach
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Mar 13;557:117856. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2024.117856. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe adaptability of epigenetics offers a compelling research avenue, notably in the context of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) biomarkers and provides a nuanced approach to managing biological systems for diagnosis. However, challenges such as DNA degradation during methylation studies are prominent, especially with cell-free DNA (cfDNA) which is present in small quantities in plasma, calling for innovative solutions. To tackle these challenges, four methodological approaches have been identified: firstly, selecting an app...
