A novel method for simultaneous detection of hematological tumors and infectious pathogens by metagenomic next generation sequencing of plasma
CONCLUSIONS: Concurrent CNV analysis alongside mNGS for infection diagnosis is promising for detecting malignant tumors. We recommend adopting a CNV region of 10Mbp over 5Mbp for our model, because of the lower false-positive rate (FPR).PMID:38484907 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.117874 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Identification of potential serum biomarkers associated with HbA1c levels in Indian type 2 diabetic subjects using NMR-based metabolomics
CONCLUSION: We propose that the identified metabolite panel can be used in the future as a biomarker for clinical diagnosis, patient surveillance, and for predicting individuals at risk for developing diabetes.PMID:38484908 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.117857 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

A comprehensive Exdia TRF-LFIA for simultaneous quantification of GFAP and NT-proBNP in distinguishing ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Mar 11;557:117872. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2024.117872. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe goal of this study is to create a highly sensitive time-resolved fluorescence lateral flow immunoassay (TRF-LFIA) capable of concurrently measuring glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and the N-terminal fragment of B-type natriuretic peptide precursor (NT-proBNP). This assay is designed as a diagnostic tool and aims to provide an algorithm for stroke management, specifically for distinguishing between Ischemic stroke (IS) and Hemorrhagic stroke (HS). However, LFIA to quantify simultaneous serum NT-proBNP and GFAP ar...

Body fluid contamination in the context of an adverse analytical finding in doping: About a case involving ostarine
We report the case of an athlete who contaminated herself by exchanging body fluids while kissing her boyfriend, who took 25 mg per day of MK-2866 for 9 days prior to the athlete's AAF (urinary concentration evaluated at 13 ng/mL) without her knowledge. The athlete's hair was black and slightly frizzy. Six segments of 2 cm then 7 × 3 cm (33 cm) were analysed and showed increasing concentrations, from 2 pg/mg on the first segment to 17.8 pg/mg on the last segment. The boyfriend's hair, light-brown, analyzed on 4 × 2 cm, also showed increasing values, from 65 to 143 pg/mg. These gradients of concentration in the hair's ath...

A comparative evaluation of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol estimation: Machine learning algorithms versus various equations
CONCLUSIONS: The results of our research indicate that when compared to conventional equations, ML algorithms are much more effective in predicting LDL-C. ML algorithms, aided by a vast dataset, could have the capability to predict LDL-C levels even in cases where triglyceride levels are high, unlike the limited usage of Friedewald formula.PMID:38461864 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.117853 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

External quality assessment for molecular detection of Ureaplasma urealyticum in China
CONCLUSION: Most of UU detection assays employed by the participants were generally consistent with their estimated limit of detection (LOD), and the majority of participants can reliably detect UU samples with high and moderate concentrations, while the poor analytical performance for low concentration samples requires further improvement and optimization.PMID:38461865 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.117864 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Clinical implications of inaccurate potassium determination in hemolyzed pediatric blood specimens
CONCLUSIONS: The use of whole blood analysis brings with it significant risk for error in potassium measurement. Better tools to detect hemolysis in these types of specimens are indicated.PMID:38460583 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.117862 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)
