Simultaneous quantification of the 22-kDa isoforms of human growth hormone 1 and 2 in human plasma by multiplexed immunocapture and LC-MS/MS
Clin Chim Acta. 2023 Dec 22:117736. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2023.117736. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn LC-MS/MS method is presented for the simultaneous quantification of two structurally closely related protein biomarker isoforms, the 22-kDa isoforms of human growth hormone 1 and human growth hormone 2, in human plasma. It is based on multiplexed immunocapture using two monoclonal antibodies immobilized on magnetic beads, tryptic digestion and quantification of two specific signature peptides plus an additional peptide for estimation of total growth hormone related concentrations. A full validation according to internationa...

Metagenomic next-generation sequencing testing from the perspective of clinical benefits
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlighted clinical benefits from mNGS varied among different clinical settings, and elucidated choices on patients, samples, sampling and reporting time were four key factors. Rational strategy should be concerned to promote scientific application of mNGS and better improve clinical value.PMID:38141936 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2023.117730 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Blood clot and fibrin recognition method for serum images based on deep learning
CONCLUSIONS: The improved UNeXt segmentation network rapidly and accurately segmented and recognized blood clots and fibrins in serum images, which provided an accurate basis for the sampling height of the sampling needle in the automated biochemical and immunological assembly line.PMID:38128814 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2023.117732 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Non-coding RNAs in Recurrent implantation failure
Clin Chim Acta. 2023 Dec 19:117731. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2023.117731. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecurrent implantation failure (RIF), defined as the inability to achieve conception following multiple consecutive in-vitro fertilization (IVF) attempts, represents a complex and multifaceted challenge in reproductive medicine. The emerging role of non-coding RNAs in RIF etiopathogenesis has only gained prominence over the last decade, illustrating a new dimension to our understanding of the intricate network underlying RIF. Successful embryo implantation demands a harmonious synchronization between an adequately decidualized...

A small-scale external quality assessment for PCR detection of group B streptococcus in China
CONCLUSIONS: Our small-scale EQA showed that most participating laboratories have reliable diagnostic capacities for GBS PCR detection. Nonetheless, further improvements in the detection performance of some laboratories are required, particularly with low-concentration samples. Our survey also reinforces the use of EQA as an essential tool to evaluate the overall proficiency of clinical laboratories.PMID:38128816 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2023.117733 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Clinical value of serum MMP-3 in chronic kidney disease
CONCLUSION: Elevated serum MMP-3 levels are correlated with decreased kidney function in CKD progression, and patients with concomitant inflammation may express high levels of serum MMP-3. Serum MMP-3 may assist eGFR in improving the diagnosis of patients with early CKD.PMID:38128817 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2023.117725 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Genetic analysis of isolated methylmalonic acidemia in Henan, China: c.1663G & gt;A variant of MMUT prevalent in the Henan population
CONCLUSION: The rare variant c.1663G>A is prevalent in the Henan population, and infants with this variant tend to have good prognosis. Our findings, especially novel variants, will help broaden the spectrum of genetic variants and facilitate clinical diagnosis and genetic counselling for affected families.PMID:38128819 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2023.117729 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)
