Myocarditis: A multi-omics approach
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Jan 4;554:117752. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2023.117752. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMyocarditis, an inflammatory condition of weakened heart muscles often triggered by a variety of causes, that can result in heart failure and sudden death. Novel ways to enhance our understanding of myocarditis pathogenesis is available through newer modalities (omics). In this review, we examine the roles of various biomolecules and associated functional pathways across genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics in the pathogenesis of myocarditis. Our analysis further explores the reproducibility and variabili...

Evaluation of diagnostic performance of SARS-CoV-2 infection using digital droplet polymerase chain reaction in individuals with or without COVID-19 symptoms
CONCLUSIONS: Detecting SARS-CoV-2 in samples with low viral loads using RT-qPCR can be challenging. However, our study suggests that RT-ddPCR, with its higher sensitivity and accuracy, is better suited for detecting low viral copies in samples, particularly those from close contacts and convalescent patients.PMID:38184140 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2023.117759 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Establishment of portable Pseudomonas aeruginosa detection platform based on one-tube CRISPR/Cas12a combined with recombinase polymerase amplification technology
This study successfully combined RPA and CRISPR/Cas12a techniques. Through a series of experiments involving the design and screening of lasB crRNA, the creation of lasB RPA primers, and the establishment of a streamlined RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a assay, the study developed a one-tube detection method targeting P. aeruginosa's lasB gene. The assay demonstrated inclusive behavior across standard and 21 isolates, while specifically discerning P. aeruginosa from diverse strains. Sensitivity reached 15.9 CFU/reaction. Clinical validation revealed a 97.62% concordance with traditional methods. The one-tube assay's protocol mitigated ae...

Autoimmune inflammatory myopathy biomarkers
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Jan 2:117742. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2023.117742. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe autoimmune inflammatory myopathy disease spectrum, commonly known as myositis, is a group of systemic diseases that mainly affect the muscles, skin and lungs. Biomarker assessment helps in understanding disease mechanisms, allowing for the implementation of precise strategies in the classification, diagnosis, and management of these diseases. This review examines the pathogenic mechanisms and highlights current data on blood and tissue biomarkers of autoimmune inflammatory myopathies.PMID:38176522 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2023.1...
