Diagnostic value of isolated plasma biomarkers and its combination in neurodegenerative dementias: A multicenter cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Our results confirmed the diagnostic performance of individual plasma biomarkers Aβ42/Aβ40, p-tau181, NfL, and GFAP in Chinese dementia patients and noted that a combination of these biomarkers may be more accurate in identifying FTD/PSP patients and distinguishing AD from non-AD dementia.PMID:38588788 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.118784 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Time-of-day dependence of running averages for some components of metabolic panels at our hospital: Relation to strategy for patient-based quality control
CONCLUSIONS: At our hospital, TOD-dependence of running means was identified for 7 of 13 metabolic panel analytes. TOD-dependence is likely to be hospital-specific. Utilization of TOD-dependent targets for PBQC, rather than fixed targets, would be appropriate in these cases.PMID:38583551 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.119667 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Study on pulp metabolism of patients with pulpitis using ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with Orbitrap mass spectrometry
CONCLUSIONS: These biomarkers as well as metabolic pathways may offer the theoretical foundation to understand pulpitis pathogenesis and develop preventive drugs.PMID:38583552 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.117894 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Immunoregulatory natural killer cells
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Apr 5:117896. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2024.117896. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis review discusses a broader scope of functional roles for NK cells. Despite the well-known cytolytic and inflammatory roles of NK cells against tumors and pathogenic diseases, extensive evidence demonstrates certain subsets of NK cells have defacto immunoregulatory effects and have a role in inducing anergy or lysis of antigen-activated T cells and regulating several autoimmune diseases. Furthermore, recent evidence suggests certain subsets of immunoregulatory NK cells can cause anergy or lysis of antigen-activated T cells ...

Comparative analysis of inherited metabolic diseases in normal newborns and high-risk children: Insights from a 10-year study in Shanghai
CONCLUSION: There are more clinical cases of congenital metabolic errors diagnosed by tandem mass spectrometry than newborn screening. The spectrum of diseases, prevalence, and genetic characteristics of normal newborns and high-risk children are quite different.PMID:38582244 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2024.117893 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Chemistry)

Surface plasmon resonance biosensors for early troponin detection
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Apr 4:118670. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2024.118670. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAcute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the life-threatening causes that decrease blood flow to the heart, leading to increased mortality and related complications. Recently, the measure of blood concentration of cardiac biomarkers has been suggested to overcome the limitations of electrocardiography (ECG) analyses for early diagnosis of this disease. Troponins, especially cardiac troponin I and cardiac troponin T, with high sensitivity and specificity, are considered the gold standards in myocardial diagnosis. Recently, th...
