Biofilms: A developmental niche for vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus
Infect Genet Evol. 2023 Dec 29:105545. doi: 10.1016/j.meegid.2023.105545. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStaphylococcus aureus are gram-positive bacteria responsible for a wide array of diseases, ranging from skin and soft tissue infections to more chronic illnesses such as toxic shock syndrome, osteomyelitis, and endocarditis. Vancomycin is currently one of the most effective antibiotics available in treating patients infected with methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), however the emergence of vancomycin-resistant S. aureus (VRSA), and more commonly vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (VISA), threaten the future efficacy o...

Evolutionary trends of carbapenem-resistant and susceptible Acinetobacter baumannii isolates in a major tertiary care setting from North India
Infect Genet Evol. 2023 Dec 18:105542. doi: 10.1016/j.meegid.2023.105542. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEmergence of carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii (CRAB) is a global, ongoing healthcare concern. CRAB is among the topmost priority pathogens, with various studies focusing on its global population structure and resistant allelic profiles. However, carbapenem-susceptible A. baumannii (CSAB) strains are often overlooked due to their sensitivity to beta-lactams, which can provide important insights into origin of CRAB lineages and strains. In the present study, we report genomic investigation of CRAB and CSAB coexisting in I...

Whole-genome sequencing and transcriptome-characterized mechanism of streptomycin resistance in Vibrio parahaemolyticus O10: K4
In this study, we isolated a total of 36 strains of V. parahaemolyticus O10:K4 from 2020 to 2022 and found that more than half of them were resistant to streptomycin. We obtained streptomycin resistant and sensitive strains by detecting the resistance profiles. Whole-genome sequencing showed that VP_RS10735 and VP_RS05605 were the predominant mutations in streptomycin resistant O10:K4 clinical isolates. In addition, this study provided global insight into the characteristics of the transcriptome signature of streptomycin resistance, revealing that efflux transporters play a key role in streptomycin resistance. Finally, we ...
