In silico prediction of interaction between Nipah virus attachment glycoprotein and host cell receptors Ephrin-B2 and Ephrin-B3 in domestic and peridomestic mammals
In this study, we assessed the degree of NiV host tropism in domestic and peridomestic mammals commonly found in Bangladesh that may be crucial in the transmission of NiV by serving as intermediate hosts. We carried out a protein-protein docking analysis of NiV G complexes (n = 52) with Ephrin-B2 and B3 of 13 domestic and peridomestic species using bioinformatics tools. Protein models were generated by homology modelling and the structures were validated for model quality. The different protein-protein complexes in this study were stable, and their binding affinity (ΔG) scores ranged between -8.0 to -19.1 kcal/mol. NiV Ba...

Increased prevalence of pretreatment drug resistance mutations in treatment-na ïve people living with HIV-1 in Henan Province, China (2022/23)
Infect Genet Evol. 2023 Nov;115:105520. doi: 10.1016/j.meegid.2023.105520. Epub 2023 Oct 26.ABSTRACTHuman deficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) harboring drug resistance mutations (DRMs) before the initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) poses a serious threat to the efficacy of current ART regimens. Currently, the prevalence of pre-treatment drug resistance mutations (PDRMs) including transmitted DRMs (TDRMs) is not completely clear. Understanding this prevalence better should offer valuable data for clinical- and government-level decision-making. To closely monitor the PDRM trend in treatment-naïve people living with HIV/A...

Invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS) aminoglycoside-resistant ST313 isolates feature unique pathogenic mechanisms to reach the bloodstream
In conclusion, we evidenced that S. Typhimurium ST313 strains isolated in Brazil have unique epidemiology. The elevated frequencies of virulence genes such as sseJ, sopD2, and pipB are a major concern in these Brazilian isolates, showing a higher pathogenic potential.PMID:37890808 | DOI:10.1016/j.meegid.2023.105519 (Source: Infection, Genetics and Evolution)

Genomic analysis of two rare human G3P[9] rotavirus strains in Ningxia, China
Infect Genet Evol. 2023 Oct 25:105518. doi: 10.1016/j.meegid.2023.105518. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTG3P (Matthijnssens et al., 2008b [9]) is a rare combination of human rotavirus VP7/VP4 genotypes with a complex evolutionary pattern but limited related studies. Detailed genomic characterisation and genetic evolutionary analyses of G3P (Matthijnssens et al., 2008b [9]) rotaviruses have helped to enhance our understanding of rotavirus diversity. For the first time, we detected two human G3P (Matthijnssens et al., 2008b [9]) Rotavirus A (RVA) strains, RVA/Human-tc/CHN/2020999/2020/G3P (Matthijnssens et al., 2008b [9]) and...

Genomic diversity and natural recombination of equid gammaherpesvirus 5 isolates
CONCLUSION: Genomic diversity and recombination hotspots were identified among EHV5 strains. Recombination can drive genetic diversity, particularly in viruses that have a low rate of nucleotide substitutions. Therefore, the results from this study suggest that recombination is an important contributing factor to EHV5 genomic diversity. The findings from this study provide additional insights into the genetic heterogeneity of the EHV5 genome.PMID:37879385 | DOI:10.1016/j.meegid.2023.105517 (Source: Infection, Genetics and Evolution)
