A comprehensive review on the role of T cell subsets and CAR-T cell therapy in Aspergillus fumigatus infection
Hum Immunol. 2024 Feb 12:110763. doi: 10.1016/j.humimm.2024.110763. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUnderstanding the immune response to Aspergillus fumigatus, a common cause of invasive fungal infections (IFIs) in immunocompromised individuals, is critical for developing effective treatments. Tcells play a critical role in the immune response to A. fumigatus, with different subsets having distinct functions. Th1 cells are important for controlling fungal growth, while Th2 cells can exacerbate infection. Th17 cells promote the clearance of fungi indirectly by stimulating the production of various antimicrobial peptides from ...

Differences in hidradenitis suppurativa patterns of cutaneous involvement between sexes: Insights from a cross-sectional study
Hum Immunol. 2024 Feb 5:110764. doi: 10.1016/j.humimm.2024.110764. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic, inflammatory condition of the pilosebaceous unit in which patients manifest multiple, painful cutaneous nodules, abscesses and tunnels. These lesions are described to affect the intertriginous zones, however, the condition exhibits significant phenotypic variability. Such variability is influenced by the patients lifestyle, genetic predisposition and sex. In this cross-sectional study, we investigate sex differences in patterns of hidradenitis suppurativa skin involvement, specifically at ...

Monitored COVID-19 vaccine humoral response in immunocompromised solid organ transplant recipients
In this study, we observed the humoral response of 70 total heart and renal transplant patients to mRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations to help further understand the effectiveness of vaccination in post-transplant patients following second or booster vaccinations. Antibodies were measured by bead technology to detect IgG, as well as IgG/IgM Rapid Cassette tests for confirmation. Immunocompromised patients had a noticeably lower humoral response than non-immunocompromised populations, with an even lower response among Black patients. Our findings also show for the first time various antibody responses to different motifs of the vi...

Zika virus precursor membrane peptides induce immune response in peripheral blood mononuclear cells
Hum Immunol. 2024 Jan 24:110761. doi: 10.1016/j.humimm.2024.110761. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTZika virus is a re-merging flavivirus allied to serious mental health conditions in the fetuses. There is currently no preventives or treatment available for Zika infection. In this work, we have extended the in silico analysis by performing the molecular docking of previous reported three conserved Zika virus precursor membrane (prM) peptides (MP1, MP2 and MP3) with HLA complex (pHLA) and T cell receptors (TCR) and also evaluated the peptide specific immune response in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Most of ...

Activating KIR/HLA-I combinations as a risk factor of adult B-ALL
Hum Immunol. 2024 Jan 22:110750. doi: 10.1016/j.humimm.2024.110750. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTB-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), the most predominant type of ALL, is less common and incurable among adults. Regarding the pivotal role of NK cells in immune surveillance against hematological malignancies, studying the effective factors in regulating their function, particularly KIRs as the most important NK cell receptors and HLA-I molecules as their main ligands, is of importance. Since NK responses against malignant lymphoblasts are influenced by KIR signals, we did a case-control study on 154 adult patients w...

Dynamics of HLA and angiotensin II type 1 receptor antibodies during pregnancy
CONCLUSIONS: Pregnancy is a relevant source of HLA antibodies sensitization, but not of AT1R antibodies. HLA antibodies increased clearly in primiparous women with predominance of class II. The use of newer solid-phase techniques on Luminex evidence a higher degree of HLA sensitization during pregnancy.PMID:38238229 | DOI:10.1016/j.humimm.2024.110749 (Source: Human Immunology)

Expression of miR-21 & amp;IL-4 in endometriosis
CONCLUSION: The increased expression of miR-21 in endometrium of women with endometriosis may upregulate the IL-4 gene expression and lead to fibrosis. Further studies may suggest miR-21 and IL-4 as candidates for diagnosis of endometriosis.PMID:38155071 | DOI:10.1016/j.humimm.2023.110746 (Source: Human Immunology)

Allergic manifestations in women with silicone breast implants
CONCLUSIONS: Allergic reactions associated with SBI are not uncommon. Imbalance of circulating levels of IgE autoantibodies against GPCRs of the autonomic nervous system might play a role not only in allergic reactions, but also in other enigmatic aspects of SBII such as autoimmune dysautonomia.PMID:38155072 | DOI:10.1016/j.humimm.2023.110747 (Source: Human Immunology)
