Single-cell transcriptomics of peripheral blood mononuclear cells indicates impaired immune and inflammatory responses in alcohol-associated hepatitis
Hum Immunol. 2023 Nov 30:110735. doi: 10.1016/j.humimm.2023.110735. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlcohol-associated hepatitis (AH) is often diagnosed at advanced stages, and severe AH usually carries poor prognosis and high short-term mortality. In addition, it is challenging to understand the molecular mechanisms of immune dysregulation and inflammation in AH due to the cellular complexity and heterogeneity. Using single-cell RNA sequencing, previous studies found that AH causes dysfunctional innate immune response in monocytes, involving activation of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) and cytokine signaling pathways....

The causal relationship between ankylosing spondylitis and the risk of ovarian cancer
CONCLUSION: Our Mendelian randomization analysis provides strong evidence supporting a potential causal relationship between AS and ovarian cancer risk, with ankylosing spondylitis clearly associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer. Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 21 as a mediator involved in the occurrence and development of these two diseases.PMID:38040544 | DOI:10.1016/j.humimm.2023.110738 (Source: Human Immunology)

Complement-dependent cytotoxicity crossmatch in solid organ transplantation: The gold standard or golden history?
Hum Immunol. 2023 Nov 28:110734. doi: 10.1016/j.humimm.2023.110734. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTComplement-dependent cytotoxicity crossmatch (CDC-XM) has been considered for many years the standard of practice for determining compatibility in solid organ transplantation (SOT). However, as this method is laborious, time intensive and lacks sensitivity and specificity, it has been replaced in many laboratories worldwide by flow cytometry crossmatch (FCXM) and/or virtual crossmatch (vXM). With this study we intend to show the relevance of performing CDC-XM in the era of virtual crossmatching. We retrospectively analyzed 1,0...

Function of gamma delta ( γδ) T cell in cancer with special emphasis on cervical cancer
Hum Immunol. 2023 Nov 4:110724. doi: 10.1016/j.humimm.2023.110724. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCervical cancer is the second-most prevalent gynecologic cancer in India. It is typically detected in women between the ages of 35 and 44. Cervical cancer is mainly associated with the human papillomavirus (HPV). The report shows that 70 % of cervical cancer is caused by HPV 16 and 18. There are few therapeutic options and vaccines available for cervical cancer treatment and γδ T cell therapy is one of them. This therapy can kill various types of cancers, including cervical cancer. The major γδ T cell subset is the Vγ9Vδ2...
