An elevated FIB-4 score is not associated with cardiovascular events: a longitudinal analysis from 137 842 patients with and without chronic liver disease
Conclusion Our study suggests that the FIB-4 score is not associated with cardiovascular events both in the general population as well as in patients with CLD. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio predicts early outcomes in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma treated with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab: a multicenter analysis
Objective: To investigate whether neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) can predict outcomes in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab (Atez/Bev). Methods: A total of 249 patients with unresectable HCC treated with Atez/Bev were included. We analyzed survival and discontinuation of this therapy in this cohort. Results: Cumulative overall survival at 2, 4, 6, and 8 months was 97.6%, 94.9%, 88.9%, and 82.8%, respectively. Cumulative overall survival differed significantly between patients with low ( (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Adherence to regular surveillance visits for hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection who achieved sustained virologic response
Conclusion Adherence to post-SVR follow-up decreased over the long term, and rates differed by patient background. Adherence was especially poor in patients who achieved SVR by IFN-free therapy, and therefore, strategies are necessary to encourage these patients to maintain their regular schedule of hospital visits. Clinical implications of hepatic structure and function evaluation based on vibration-controlled transient elastography and liver maximum function capacity test in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Background and aims Transient elastography [vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE)] noninvasively guides risk stratification in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and fibrosis can be identified using the FAST-score. The liver maximum function test (LiMAx) could be helpful in more precise risk stratification. This pilot study evaluated VCTE, FAST-score, and LiMAx in NAFLD patients. Methods NAFLD patients prospectively underwent VCTE and LiMAx. The cutoffs for high fibrosis risk were 9.3/9.6 kPa (M/XL-probe) and 331 dB/m for steatos...

The association between Dietary Diversity Score and odds of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: a case-control study
Conclusion High DDS is inversely correlated with the risk of NAFLD. Hence, increasing the diversity score of diet by emphasizing the higher diversity scores for vegetables and less for meat and refined grains may be profitable for the management of NAFLD. A decade of rising alcoholic liver disease hospital admissions and deaths in Irish hospitals, 2007–2016: a retrospective cross-sectional analysis
Conclusion Ireland is seeing a rise in ALD-related hospital admissions and deaths, including HCC which increased three-fold. ALD is a preventable disease, and public health interventions are of proven benefit and required to reverse this trend. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Characteristics and care of chronic hepatitis C treated with direct-acting antivirals in migrants
This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics and care of chronic hepatitis C in this population compared to the nonmigrant population, in the era of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). Method We performed a retrospective analysis based on data presented at the multidisciplinary team meetings of our tertiary care center between 2015 and 2019. Results We included 277 migrant- and 1390 nonmigrant patients mono-infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and treated with DAAs. The majority of the migrants were from Eastern European countries. In multivariable analysis, BMI classes associated with more obesity (OR =â...

A comparative study on nosocomial and community-acquired spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in patients with liver cirrhosis at a university hospital
Conclusion The significant increase in MDR phenotype and ESBL production among nosocomial isolates necessitates a change in the initial empirical therapy for nosocomial SBP and carbapenems seem good alternatives. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Patient-reported continuous clinical response to golimumab in adults with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis: results from GO OBSERVE, a real-world European observational study
Conclusion In daily clinical practice, regular remote monitoring of combined patient-reported Mayo stool frequency and rectal bleeding scores appears to be a meaningful real-world outcome measure for monitoring maintenance of GLM-induced clinical response in UC. Predictor of primary response to antitumor necrosis factor-α therapy for inflammatory bowel disease: a single-center observational study
Conclusion This is the first study to present a useful predictor of primary response to anti-TNFα of individual IBD patients at second administration. The Kanti-TNFα0/Kelse ratio may help to select the optimal therapeutic drug and avoid the improper continuous administration of anti-TNFα in the induction phase. Upregulated NORAD is implicated in apoptosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress in ulcerative colitis through the nuclear factor-κappaB signaling
Conclusion NORAD participates in TNF-α-induced FHC apoptosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress via the NF-κB signaling via the miR-552-3p/MYD88 axis, offering new insights into the pathogenesis of UC. (Source: European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology)
